a 6-7 years ago there were so many good prices on ebay, but now.....

I bought a b-52 tube head last year and decided I didn't like it so I turned to ebay to recover some of my cash and i ended up selling it for $200 more than what i paid for it... more than a new one costs!!! it's just silly i tell ya.

But sometimes you can get lucky...

I bought my '78 SG on ebay for $800 (I've looked for another and haven't found anything less than $1500)

And I bought my green russian big muff for like $70 (they normally go for $150)

I've found the auctions that close late at night are the best... you can sneak in and bid at the last second.

I think the best place for vintage gear is local papers, yard sales, word of mouth, pawn shops, music-go-round.

Fuck, that 71 SG Zac picked up is SWEEEEEET!! I wanted to buy that so bad but $2500???

Have you seen it?

Holy Shit, That SG is insane! Gary used it in the studio for some tracks and it sounds amazing.

Zac getting that made me want to get an early 70's Fender P-Bass.

Ebay. Talkbass.com has a for sale section that sometimes has older bass stuff, if that's what you are looking for. Expect it to cost a pretty penny.

I tried Talkbass, but they didn't have too much in the way of early 70's Fenders. Gbase.com is a good one, but their pirices are a little high. It seems like the P-basses from that time period jumped about $1000 in the past 3 years.

Ebay. It's all about ebay. Go there often and you'll find stuff. Pretty much all of our vintage gear is from ebay. Connie's '65 Fender Bandmaster was an ebay buy it now score for $550. It just takes time. You have to be looking a lot. And, like Jeremy said, late night, non-weekend ending auctions are good.

Yeah, don't by the first thing you see and wait for a good price. "buy it now" is the way to go if the price is right.

... that said, there are a few things i've been looking for for years that I saw the first time I went to ebay and I didn't by it and now I've never seen them again ... a dude had a "buy it now" for a set of 4 hubcaps for my 62 comet and i didn't by it thinking i'd find others... i was wrong

It's mine now. There's a fretted early 70s P Bass and an early Telecaster Bass at Guitar Center. Both around 1500. I almost got the P, but went for the fretless instead.

I saw that fretless above the doorway to the acoustic room...looked real nice, and with theMcCartney bass next to it. Fretless sounds like poo-poo when not in good hands so I'm glad somebody who knows what they're doing got it.

What's the finish on the 70's fretted?

The P-Bass has a sunburst finish with tortoise pickguard. Can't remember if it's a maple or rosewood board. It's early 70s...I think 73. Here's what I remember from spending some time with it.

Finish is checking and shows normal play wear. Nothing terrible, just nice vintage wear.

The neck is one of the thicker necks, but super straight and fast.

The pickups are stock...don't know why some P-Basses sound hotter than others with stock p/ups, but this one definately has that hot rock sound when the tone is up.

The only beef I had was that some of the screws in the pickguard aren't the same...but that's just a cosmetic thing.

I came really close to buying it, but I just liked the neck and pickups on the fretless better.

I totally forgot...I was in GC yesterday and the guy said they could come down on the price on that P-Bass cause it had been there for a while.
