Cheers to the King.

Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant shit to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was
Simple and plain
Mother fuck him and John Wayne.

Elvis Wrote only two lyrics in Suspicious Minds. Not even the whole song. All the other hits were written by others. And back then, songwriters used to send artists an aceatate with the sonwriter's vocal on them. Elvis thought that was how he was supposed to interpert the tunes. His "vocal style" was based on those interpretations. Poor dude was just really a puppet and an industry dupe.

But as far as "King Of Rock and Roll"? The only way I could give a nod there, would be based on his extended and copious, daily drug injestion. No one in Rock can match that record. Not even Black Maria.

The man was a great performer with good looks and an amazing voice. Credit is given where it's due.

What?! Blues artists rerecord songs written by other blues artists?! That's unheard of!

I don't claim to know anything about his feelings on non-whites, though.

Are you implying that Elvis was a "Blues Artist"? More like a song stylist/pop artist. ther blues artists?! That's [/QUOTE]

You don't really think Elvis was a "Blues Artist",do you? A song-stylist and a Pop Artist, sure.
He was as much a "Blues Artist" as Pat Boone. I was merely mentioning his lack of original composistion. It was and still is the way mainstream Pop Artists operate. No dis to y'all's hero, Big E. with that.

This Forum on the other hand is impossible to see what I'm writing. Not a strong marketing move...

I knew you would discredit him as a blues artist. Country-folk artist? Is that better? His earlier days were laden with it, regardless of whether he wrote the music himself or not.

Hmm...this is my first time on Rocksquawk on my Powerbook. I can see what I'm typing.

I like the color scheme of the forum, but can't change the font color. Black font or dark charcoal gray would be nice. I think I'll bring it up to the rocksquawk gods.

Yeah, it's pretty well known that Elvis never really wrote anything, but I've liked dozens of his songs since I was about 3, so it's hard to separate the sound of a singer with great delivery from something not quite music-related, like credibility.

I'm pretty indifferent to Elvis, but personally I'll take Chuck Berry over the king ANY DAY.

wow, i can't see anything as i write this reply. on my sirius radio, there's an all elvis station. sometimes it can be a bit much, but they play some live stuff where he's clearly pilled up and out of his mind. good stuff. again, i can't see what i'm typing, so this may look weird. anyway, elvisi like, king of RnR or not. i may be a dork, but i get the chills still when i hear 'kentucky rain'.
