I just wanted to express my appreciation for oatmeal.

It's so misunderstood. Behind that gooey facade is a delicious flavor that can be complimented by any of your favorite fruits and spices, a wonderful aroma, and whole-grain nutrition that will give your self-esteem and bowels a pick-me-up!!

Here's to you, oatmeal. Salut!

I was walking through the kitchen and Chef grabs me and says, "Hey man, taste this oatmeal." I grabbed a clean soup spoon and did as I was instructed. It was good. I responded, "Damn Chef, I don't know much about the technical side of oatmeal, but that's some pretty fucking good oatmeal." He says, "Yeah, it's pretty good, but it needs more heavy whipping cream and a bit more sugar." Just a small, thoughtful turd for anyone who gets oatmeal at a hotel* because it's healthy.

*DISCLAIMER: this did not occur at Hotel Albuquerque, where I am currently employed.**

**I don't think anyone I work with is on the RockSquawks, but you never know, I suppose...***

That's a beautifully articulated statement.

Oatmeal kicks ass. But not that apple cinnamon crap. Crunchy is not to be any part of oatmeal unless it is some kind of nut. Fruit in cereal makes me so angry I cannot even speak. I like the Quaker Maple & Brown Sugar instant oatmeal with some butter melted in it. I eat four or five of the little bags at a time. As Gio knows, this will really get your insides going, especially if you dump a nice, hot latte down yer neck, too. Then it's time to go and sit on the can with the Tapco catalog for a little while.

I have steel cut (Irish?) oatmeal most mornings, with a little butter and honey. Takes about half an hour to cook, though. Frown

I have biscuits with honey almost every morning. I had some of that "peaches and cream" instant oatmeal crap, it tasted like air freshener, and it put me off the oats for a while. This thread makes me want to give it another shot though.

The Denny's in Bernalillo and sometimes the one on Central near UNM has this Oatmeal--uh...meal which includes a bowl of sliced bananas, brown sugar in one of those little plastic decanters, milk (or half and half, whatever your preference) and an english muffin with butter. Throw in a cup of coffee and a carafe of OJ and you've got yourself a perfect after-gig breakfast. It's beautiful.

I'm always down for some bananas in my Corn Flakes. Basic 4 is an awesome cold cereal. Dates + rasins + almonds + skim milk = a good day. What about those freeze-dried strawberries in Special K? mmm....

I'm of the mind that there is no such thing as bad cereal. It is a gift from the Gods and an essential and integral part of the bachelor/musician lifestyle.

Thank you General Mills, Post, Kellogg's, Nestles, Quaker Oats and all the rest.
Thank you...
