That thing needs an overhaul anyway.

Yes, an overhaul. Alibi never did it for their health.

I was thinking more outdoor shows. In fact, let the outdoor aspects dominate. Have tables available for bands to sell merch maybe, or local artists can sell their crap. Project stuff on all the buildings around the outdoor stage, which would be cool if it were right in the middle of central. Run locally made films at the Kimo and anywhere else. Have some theater on it's own stage. Maybe a live Karaoke band ... make it more of an event than just the same frigging bands at the same bars. Who cares about going to that?

Sweet, Action.

If you've got ideas to share, post them suckers up. There's an older Crawl suggestions thread for inspiration here:

I hate to exclude anyone, and i'm sure they bring in 'a' crowd, but ABQ can't be the music city it thinks it is if half of the performers at its big music festival are Djs. Eliminate them, fill the slots bands,,,,,,, more all-ages venues/stages (the Crawls have really gotten to be known as the 'old-people' thing), much more outdoor stuff, everything Action said, venues should mix up their schedules a bit genre-wise, and then forget their earplugs.

That thread IS funny. Also, I post too much.

I still agree with:
-Start it at 8 or 9. If you want something earlier have ONE venue or outdoor stage do it.
-Have an outdoor stage. If you have two, make one with beer.
-Have an all-ages venue.
-Don't put DJs in rock bars or bands in jukebox/dj bars.
-Make it ten bucks.

I think a lot of the other, even more unrealistic ideas are cool too though, like merch tables, parking, staging areas, fencing off downtown, etc.

Yeah major bummer.

The problem with everything Action mentioned is ABQ government's favorite thing to do to fuck people out of anything: PERMITS!

I was one of the volunteer coordinators for Hyperfest last year and I had no idea how much crap the city puts outdoor events through...You have to pay for all the parking that the city would be losing if you're closing off streets. You have to have a specific number of police officers of various rankings and pay them time and a half. You have to have even MORE if there are any people under 21 involved. You have to have the appropriate permits to have anyone sell anything out of doors. You have to have emergency crews at the ready. And that's only what?..4 out of like 35 signatures you have to get from the City. It's craziness!!

You know what I think the Alibi needs? More coordinators & volunteers. I'll help out. No joke...email me Alibi peeps (giovanna.alexis@gmail.com) And so should anyone else that wants to keep live music alive in this town.

What I wanna know is how the fuck did Maloney's have a HUUUUGE outdoor bar, stage and a fucking Mechanical Bull in the middle of Central on St. Patty's day!!!? That shit really pissed me off seeing that the city wont allow outdoor stages for crawls anymore.

Maloney's just got rid of Alibi and IQ. Their "corporate office" won't allow anything local! Anyplace that answers to a "corporate office" and is supposed to be a local hangout is NOT A COOL PLACE.

Here's how that place was invented: "Hey, this Applebees' needs to have less parking! I know, let's open our own bar and name it something Irish! They'lll pay for anything one day a year!"

I invite everyone lamenting the death of the '08 Spring Crawl (myself included) to check out the "Rock the 9" Native American Rock Show at the Sunshine Theater on April 25th.

We jumped on the date when we learned that the Crawl was not happening and we have been working VERY VERY hard on a virtually budgetless grassroots effort to bring in some awesome bands from deep in the Reservations...great performers that you'd normally have no chance of hearing here in ABQ.

Derek Miller (Six Nations, Canada) just wrapped his latest album in Austin with Stevie Ray Vaughn's Double Trouble, and had Willie Nelson guest (with Trigger) on a track.
Keith Secola (Tempe, AZ) is the ONLY guy that has figured out how to mesh Traditional Music with Rock/Country and probably invented 'Native Americana'.
Rocking Horse and Coalition are from waaaaaaay out in Navajo Country and are simply phenomenal.
The Old Main and Saving Damsels are our bands, and we are local, so we can't make any lofty claims about ourselves...or could we? Just kidding.

The Blackbird Buvette is hosting an acoustic show earlier in the afternoon for the dinner/cocktail hour with five more great singer/songwriters from across the country.

I WANT TO REITERATE: THIS IS A MUSIC FESTIVAL AND EVERYONE IS WELCOME...NOT JUST THE 'SKINS.
WE'VE PUT OUR HEARTS INTO THIS SHOW TO SHOWCASE NATIVE MUSIC FOR EVERYONE.
