NAME US. The Weekly Alibi is hosting a name suggestion contest. Go to alibi.com, then to the Music to Your Ears column, and post band name suggestions and win a prize! Prize will most likely be some obsolete merch with our old name* and a thank you on our new album; we also might buy you a drink**. Here's an address for that article: http://alibi.com/index.php?story=18408&scn=music. Suggest as many as you want***!!

* you can say you liked us before we sold out.
**as long as we don't have to sit with you.
***and give up all future rights to those ideas!

Love, The artists soon to be formerly known as Romeo Goes To Hell.

so: we still can't agree on a band name. Everyone has a few they like, but almost none of them overlap. I wittled away most all the ones band members said they HATED. Many, many hundreds other good ones are taken (the reject/taken list is almost to 700 now). Thanks to everyone for their suggestions! Here's the short list as of right now:

Hot violence
Danger heart
Signal plan
Brand New Volume
Epic Volume
Epic secret
Post machina
Post volume
Radio array
Steel lips
radio silence
project volume

These don't fit how I feel when I hear your band. Hope you don't use 'em.

it's Volume Volume. Sorry if you don't like it, hope it grows on you. we'll be giving prizes to the runners-up, as well as some of the more awesome losers in the name-suggestion contest (including fake-band buttons for the top 10!). We'll have more merch and stuff soon too. we have a new wesite at volumevolume.com, please update your links!

so long, Romeo Goes to Hell!

actually, we WILL be playing at least the next 6 shows we already have booked under our old name, since promo is out and such already. And honestly, if you want to bill us as Romeo 'cause you think it'll bring more folks in, go for it.

name change contest winners and prizes
Listen, about the whole band name change contest... this is kind of embarrassing... I have the prizes (20 buttons, a cd, a shirt-while supplies last, and a few will get thanks on our next album), but...

Now we can't figure out WHO the fuck won the damn contest.

1. I didn't think we were going to get so many suggestions (I stopped counting at a thousand, and still are getting them). I accepted them from the Alibi.com, emails, myspace (personal and band sites), written down on little scraps of paper, yelled from passing cars, etc. but we didn't keep the suggest-ees with the suggest-ions. As we edited down the list, copying/cutting/pasting/whatever, we lost track. even after going back through the stuff a million times we don't have them all. Some messages may have been erased, everyone online uses aliases...

2. The thirteen winning suggestions isn't the TOP thirteen. Beside the fact that over 700 of the suggestions were already taken-inclusing some DAMN GOOD ones, some of the finalists sounded almost totally alike. We pulled out unique-ish and varied-er ones that had been cut in earlier rounds. Also, some of them are actually variants on names suggested and not the actual suggestion. And they aren't in any kind of order... er, I mean to say that YOURS was a really tough choice, and ALMOST won/made the list!...

3. it turns out the top thirteen is more like top 10, since some turned out to be from the same people and at least is one from the band.

4. Actually, it isn't even top ten, since we have one in there for worst suggestion, one "what the fuck?" one, and one who gets a prize for most suggestions.

This is what I know: here are the suggestions that get a prize, including buttons of all the non-winning names!

A Danger Crisis - Nae the Grey (through myspace)
attention: danger! - Nae the Grey (myspace)
Factory Version - cheese (myspace)
Empire Eyes - worldsapart (alibi.com)
assassination radio - worldsapart (alibi.com)
Iron Tonic - harry redus-brown (rocksquawk.com - though he suggested "the" iron tonic)
Big Gay Hat - Doctor Bloor (alibi.com - this is the "worst suggestion prize," no offense)
Brand New Volume - Rachel Lujan (who is in the band and so she can't win)
Steel Parrot - ? (this is the "wtf" award, since it made us smile everytime)
Danger Heart - ?
Heavy into ? (the actual suggestion was "heavy into Bill Bunting")
Output Signal - ?
Volume Volume - which is what won... actually, was this a variation of something? Damn.
Finally, prettykatemachine on alibi.com wins a prize pack for "most suggestions."

So: who are you, mystery persons?

Holy shit! I'm glad we didn't try anything like this. As if as many people give a shit about our band.

I thought it would be lot of fun and get us some press. It turned into a full-time job for over a month! Seriously. We finally had to flip a coin and not speak to each other for a couple of weeks. our final choice was everyone's third favorite from the ones leftover after we removed ones already used (which was the real top 50!)

If it had been up to me, we'd be Hot Violence or Haute Project. ... damn, I still think hot violence is a great name!

Rachel wanted Danger Heart or Brand New Volume.

Noelan hates us both secretly forever.

Josh didn't get a vote, because he was sick that day(s...month...).

Most outside people liked Assassination Radio, which is great-sounding but just too damn long: I know from my work that that just wouldn't fit on a flyer well, and we'd end up in 10 point with the other bands in 14. It'd REALLY suck on a button.

we'll probably use "heavy into" for our next album title though, or that's been the talk.

*In a somewhat gay German accent* "Hot Violence" makes me feel like a schoolboy yah?

In all seriousness, why not this one?

I got outvoted, simple as that. I could have probably badgered and convinced them to go with it, but would have felt bad save that for trying to get them in bed.

I would try to fuck my band members, but they're not that good looking. Its a good thing I'm in the band, or we'd have to name ourselves "The Brown Baggers".
