We actually really enjoyed the show we played there last night. It's my understanding that they have gone through a million management/booking/sound guy/equipment/etc. changes in the last bunch of years. In the past I got pissed at the overall shittiness of the shows I saw: there was always equipment troubles, security issues, the audience had poor views of the bands, no promotion, no money, poor bartender service. At some point I just stopped going, and before that I'd only go to see a band I really liked. With all the troubles, bands I liked stopped playing there, so I had even less reason to go. It got a reputation as being half-assed. Only certain bands would agree to play there (more power to 'em by the way, they deserve to have a spot for themselves). The building itself is nice, but I don't think I've been in there for longer than a beer in years. Last night was a suprise, we had a good show. There is no reason that place shouldn't be as cool as anyplace else in town. So good luck with that. We'd sure play there again.

The sound guy was good that night, but that might be because it was a special occasion. The equipment looks like it was all bought at pawn shops... we spent a few minutes trying to get a monitor working just to realize it wasn't plugged in. I guess it was just for show? but we have had hit-or-miss sound anyplace. Everybody talks about the sound at the Launchpad, but it ain't all that great if your sound guy walks off and disappears when the set starts and leaves you with some knob turned up or something. We've often sounded great at the Tiki because it seems like they just care more. Disorganized is true: we were told 3 different ending times by three different people, while we were on stage. But they were coordinating with the bands next door as well, so it ain't a big deal: it was only a few minutes, and that also can happen anywhere. i don't know what a typical night is like there because we don't play there typically... I'd say it was as good as a typical night anywhere, and that ain't bad (it ain't great either...)

I generally like the crowd and the staff there. One of the bartenders told us we were the best thing they've ever heard... that was nice, they also payed us before we even played, they're nice people. The couple of times we've played there the sound was actually pretty decent, although a direct input box would be nice and I think drums or at least kick drums should be miked since the place is so large...we have loud good sounding drums so we're fortunate, but I've seen bands there with a horrible mix because the drums were too quiet, actually I think one of the largest reasons the launchpad sounds good is because they put mics on the drums and everything in general. Anyways, the sound guy there should have enough mics to at least mic the kick drum, which I think would make a huge improvement and would add that extra rock and roll power to the sound. Otherwise the GW is all right with me. Uhhm...The booking guy is pretty swell
