Bastard Child of AMS

Greetings Squawkers...
We don't have much on the burner for this month. Just one show, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, with all of the established Granma's bands.....Astray, Systemic,.....We should stick out like a really sore.....something.

In other news, the cd has been pushed back to February. Been having a hard time finding that right person to do the mastering. I think I finally managed to line up "the guy", but he will be unavailable until December, so we shall see.

Will post more later.

...Jasper should play last, this would calm the metal music ions floating in the air down, returning the flow of energy to an equal amount of positive/negative charged particles, thus promoting sales Grandma's and customers leaving with a smile on their faces....

OOOMMMMMMMM-JAHLAH-MO-LUUUU-OOOMMMMMMMMMM

...and the pipe is put away..... Razz

Normally I would have to agree, however, due to the lack of chicken wire surrounding the stage, I am afraid that after all the alcohol, we would be KILLED by flying bottles.

I am very content with playing first or second and getting the fuck out with my skin. It has been made clear that we are going to do the most mellow of the mellow. Simple, no solos, and demoral like progressions. That being said, we will still finish with "Dirty Americans", just to wake the crowd up, once we are done.

Oh, and don't put that pipe away, pass it over here!!!!! Roll Eyes

...brazen are you to even bring up playing second...play first then, warm the crowd up (since its a heavy music thang) that music is going to start....then let the big guns hail out in all out metalness...atleast you played...I like Jasper Brown, what is the deal with other like-minded bands? I understand you probably got into this Grandma's gig because of contacts but my friend WTF? Jasper Brown won't be appreciated as if you were playing with other genre-like bands....right? Don't sell out Dave....Jasper Brown is better than this....I just hate the thought that you guys are going to play in front of people that aren't going to appreciate you guys.........just my oppinion Wink

Well to make a long story short, Dan was approached by whoever was setting it up. And since we had played at Granny's, he was under the impression that they wanted us to play because they liked us. Then we found out who was on the bill, and were like "oh, shit". But after reading some of the posts made by our favorite Metal Maniac(on what is good music, and what is shit), we decided to do it anyway. To push the envelope in the opposite direction. Be as subtle, and simplistic as we can bring ourselves to be and maybe, just maybe we can enlighten one person.(FAT CHANCE)
A couple of weeks ago we played this show with CREEPSHOW at the Atomic, and when we started, I felt the "WTF are these guys doing here" vibe ripple through the crowd. But by the time we got to the first chorus, that vibe had changed into "wait a minute, these guys are pretty good". By the time we finished (with Dirty American might I add) we had these Goths coming up to us asking when the cd was gonna be released and when our next show was and so on.
So you never really know what is going to happen, until you give it a shot. And I've been doing this long enough to know that not everyone will appreciate what I do, but that is not going to stop me. I make the music I make because it is what I feel, just like those metal guys.
Selling out is not an option....that is what Jasper is about, not sellling out. Which is why we don't play all the downtown venues, three times a month, and is why we play the genre and venues that we play in. This gig is more out of loyalty to my bandmates. Dan set it up, not knowing who we would be playing with, and I couldn't just say "Hell no, I'm not playing with systemic!" regardless of what they will think of us. Actually I'm looking forward to hearing what they have to say.
I am making more and more contacts in this genre, and next year most of our shows will be set up with like minded musicians.
I do appreciate your concern and thank you for your support. Most of the locals(including my band) thought that I was Nucking Futs, when this all came about, but now, most of those who have experienced it, understand the why's and how's. About the only locals who don't get it are et and his pimp-momma, but who give a flying butt f*ck what they think. They screwed Jasper over once, and won't get the opportunity to do so again.
Well so much for making a long story into a short one.

...very good...I think your thought process on the concept is in the right frame of mind of where it should be. Let me know the next time Jasper has a show at Pearl's Dive. I will bring my posse down for dinner and the show... Wink

PS: Actually the members of Creepshow are very nice people...and being an 'ex-Goth' musician...we tend to be "sensitive" people who like different music........so its no surprise the Goth crowd dug what you guys are doing, I think you guys are great.

I agree, the guys and gal in CREEPSHOW, are very cool people. I just wish I would have had a camera afterward.
There we were in our denim and boots, sitting, having a beer with a guy that is dressed up like a zombie in a fish-net t-shirt. Only in Albuquerque.
And I will try to be better about posting the "non-downtown" shows on the squawk. So that if any squawkers are interested, they can come and check them out.
Again I must say Thanx for your support.

you said:

...that being said, you are right 'we are in Albuquerque', the above reference is nothing out of the ordinary in any 'big' city (or in my book), this is Albuquerque. I wouldn't doubt if Creepshow moves forward onto CA or NY, MA, Chicago and makes it big.........where does Jasper want to go.......don't follow the gnome no matter what...can you dig?

Well my next steps are probably going to lead to Texas, you know, the road to hell?....I also have some plans for NY next summer....and a few points in between. I'm not much for Cali, but who knows where this could all lead. Which gnome were you referring to? I'll to keep an eye out for it so I don't step on it, when I pass it up.

I hadn't thought of that.....I had better be careful....I would hate to get my ass kicked by a couple of lawn jockeys and half a dozen pink flamingos.....although it might make for a funny music video. Wink

What an interesting night that turned out to be. After being acosted by teen-aged groupies in the parking lot, we managed to pull off, what turned out to be the most mellow Jasper set ever. Maybe it was all of those demoral smoothies that we stole from those groupies. It might have been all the whiskey and beer that was being forced on us by those who attended.
It seems that the metal maniac missed us, for some reason, unknown to me, systemic was not available for the Granny's Rocks performance. So the amount of bands got cut down to 6.
Silvertongue proved to be the high-lite for me. I thought they were a very tight band with catchy tunes. Astray proved to be better than expected. I was expecting a typical Metal onslaught, what I heard were guitar solos that were appropriate to the songs they were played in. Not too much, not too little. All in all a very nice performance for those guys. Dead on point 5. What can I say, those guys sound a lot bigger than a three piece band. They were LOUD, energetic, and melodic. Their front man reminded me of a metal Freddy Raygun, which is a good thing. (a very high energy performer) Which leads us to Beefcake in Chains. On saturday it was just a Beefcake, no chains, but pretty heavy none the less. They proved that they can still rock out, without getting all dressed up to do so. And they turned out to be really cool guys. They even complimented us on our performance, which was less than stellar.
So all in all the Granny's Rocks show turned out to be a nice, drunken experience for me. (which is pretty rare for me) Even with all that highjinks that was going on next door. Wink
