Hi there - I just moved here from Boston where I was playing drums in a punk/hardcore band for about 6 years. I'm hoping to start playing again - I'm getting so bored that I started trying to teach myself to play NOFX on an acoustic guitar, and I can't play guitar for shit, so getting back to drums would be great about now.

I don't mind playing something different from punk/hardcore (but I am married, so no The Ground Beneath)but so far the only options for drummers I've spotted are 80's metal, solo guitar player side projects and kids who think that 2 years of bass experience is impressive.

I don't mind doing the footwork to find a new band, but I'm not sure where to start here. Any tips on the punk/hardcore scene in Albuquerque? Places to look besides craigslist? I don't even know the venues that have shows with local music. Any info/bands/whatnot would be appreciated, thanks.

Also, here's the myspace for my old band. Not so conveniently for me, they've left up 3 of the simplest songs I ever put drums to, so I'm a bit better than those tracks suggest. "Take it back" is worth listening to, though. *Apparently, they just put up the video of a cable access show we did - has better songs on it...*

Anyway, I'd like an excuse to get my drums out of their boxes and have a few beers while playing them. What say ye folks? Who should I talk to? Know anyone who likes this style and needs a drummer?

i'd jam w/ya have some fun and see where it goes. i don't have a lot of spare time now but we could mess around on weekends. dave, you wanna start a HC band Smile? i like the tunes on the video. cool breakdowns too.

Also, there is a rehearsal space called Bleeding Eardrum. It's on Indian school and Moon I think. You'd go talk to the owner Mike down there and see who's looking for drummers or look at the flyers on their wall. You can also put free ads in the paper, the Alibi (if you place them online.)

Wow. I didn't quite expect such a full response - thanks all, it's appreciated.

For Born as Ghosts - I can't commit to something as serious as tours and whatnot, but thanks for the offer to tryout.

Dave and Monkey - playing around on the weekend would be a nice way to get back going again. This weekend is a no-go (wedding anniversary - I guess TGB has a point), but if you guys are up for it I'd love to play after that sometime. Shoot me an email sometime and we can figure something out? billy_kunkel@hotmail.com

And I'll pass on the Judge compliment to Milo - they'll love it.

Are you talking bout The Helm? I tried to make it there but i got outta work too late. How was it? I'm not too familiar with them but from what I've heard they're pretty intense, like Skit-system or something...

If you're looking for a guitar player, I'm in. Your old band sounds good. I moved here from NJ about two years ago and I've been dying to start an east coast style hardcore band. You can check out my old band at myspace.com/amomentspeace

Jay, like the old tunes, reminds me of One Life Crew. Eventhough they are from Cleveland, I still consider them an east coast HC band.

Dave, glad you like the stuff. Are you a singer? There seems to be a bunch of us on here into the old school hardcore. We should all get together and see what happens.

Well... yes and no. The singer had this thing about finding God in between hideous drinking binges. So, we were all taking the attitude of letting the singer say what he wanted to say. So that's what happened. Not to say I didn't love that band. That's just the way it was. I wrote a lot of the riffs and all of those guys are still great friends of mine. It was a total spectacle though. You never knew If he was gonna be falling down drunk, or standing up preaching. Plus the guy was like, 400 lbs and covered in ink. We had a blast and did pretty well for a while. I myself am not christian. I'm a jew and I'm not even straight edge.

Hi-

I am a guitar player of 24 years experience looking to jam. I need a drummer. You sound like you know what's up. If you still need someone, let me know. I have tons of equip and my own car, and I can play anything from blues to jazz to straight rock to metal.
