This is a no-committment opportunity to stretch yourself as a musician. COBRA is an improv game that sounds best with 12-15 musicians.

We are about to start doing training/practice sessions again. It usually takes 3-4 practices to get the rules down, after that you can show up to the shows you can make, but nobody's on the hook to show up to all shows.

I think we're all full of guitar players, but we could take on another bass, percussion, sax, turntables, cello, whatever. Post here if you're interested or email me, jeff@proofofconceptband.com.

We won't get in the way of your main gig. This will be a chance to do something different from what you're used to and push your limits as a musician.

Our current lineup? It's kind of a revolving door thing, so whoever shows up for the show is our current lineup. Usually, there are:

2 guitars
1 bass (sometimes upright)
1-2 percussionists
2 trombones
1 viola
1 violin
1 master electronics
1 keyboard

New people that have shown interest play banjo/pedal steel/Gameboy and violin/guitar/mandolin.

Good stuff.

We're getting some good interest from interesting musical folk. Keep 'em coming! This takes a lot of creativity, a music-on-demand kind of thing, and a little patience to learn what we're doing.

I think we might have a vocalist on board now too.

Freaks only, please.

Anyone else? We're about to start scheduling practices so let us know before we set up a time you can't come.

Really, twig and berries is a valid instrument; most of my friends are pros.

First practice is tomorrow, 11/20. Send me an email if you need information or didn't get the email John sent out.

We're doing this the next 5 Sundays to learn the rules of the game and get acquainted with each other. We have one show lined up 12/23 with many more to follow next year.

We probably won't get around to training new people in until next summer or later, so this is your last chance at doing the John Zorn thing with us.
