even if you don't dig the noisy stuff, these shows are cool as shit...
---------------- from dCat: WHAT: The Return of the Bastard Son of Speaker Waffle Sunday Brunch Club! And on Father's Day, no less. This will be the 3rd trimonthly Speaker Waffle show since the series started up last year, and the concept just keeps getting bigger each time. As usual, there will be pancakes & waffles, juice, bacon, green chile and other grub, plus local music inside & out back of Stove's performance space. There’s also 2 touring bands involved this time, as well as a DJ & unconventional notions of performance throughout. WHO: In (hopefully) chronological order, the acts are as follows: The Future of Cheerleading: This will be the second live performance by this much-anticipated mystery noise duo. The FoC are as much a pleasure to watch as they are to hear, with all the vintage sound gear and other toys that they rock. Waitaminnit- 'mystery noise'? Works for me. Pygmy Lush (http://www.myspace.com/pygmylush): This Virginia combo boasts ex-members from turn-of-the-century hardcore supergroup Page 99. The current project is more melodic, and has a thick country influence. The raw, heart-on-your-sleeve themes & vocals are still there, though. If you’re a fan of Firewater or Blackheart Procession, you’ll LOVE this band. They’re also quite awesome on their own merits. Tideland (http://www.myspace.com/tidelandmusic): VA fellow travellers Tideland nail the old 90’s indy rock sound to the wall; that period when everyone was sick of hearing about 'alternative' music, but 'grunge' hadn't come into vogue yet. The namechecks fit like a glove- Dinosaur Jr., pre-pop Sonic Youth, Polvo...it's enough to make a Class of '88 retro-hater like myself get all nostalgic. Fando (http://myspace.com/mrbittner) One of, if not THE most challenging hard rock outfit in Albuquerque. So experimental, in fact, that I'm not sure if 'hard rock' or 'metal' even applies anymore. What's the lazy rock critic to do with a group like this? Put away the band thesaurus, turn off the genre-generator program and just enjoy music made by talented musicians who enjoy music. Also: not to give too much away, but there's been talk of a possible appearance by Fando's alternate personality Ömelet Makörr. Dirty//Birdies (www.myspace.com/cobragroup) is one of the multiple heads of a phoenix rising from the still-smouldering ashes of structured-improv boot camp Cobra Group. 'Noise' is too simple a term for what they do- it's more like an avalanche created by an avant garde composer. These symphonic sirens will finish off the event in mostly acoustic form, bringing things to a boil inside Stove and takin’ it to the streets. DJ Caterwaul (www.viva-radio.com/dcat) will be spinning vinyl indoors between bands and/or after The ‘Birdies have left the building. Think of it like a Chillout Room for the experimental rocker crowd. Raven Chacon of local microlabel Sicksicksick will also be there with his distro of rare, one-of-a-kind merchandise. This is stuff you can't find anywhere else, folks. And most likely, there will be some surprise performances as well. WHERE: STOVE performance space, 114 Morningside NE WHEN: Sunday morning, June 15th (Father's Day)- doors open at 10am, music starts around 10:30am, things wind down around 2pm HOW: $5 gets you in, donations of food & help cooking greatly appreciated. All ages welcome. For more info, contact Derek Caterwaul via dcaterwaul@hotmail.com or Raven via 6ick6ick6ick@gmail.com. ---------------------------- "rock and roll's not dead, it's just passed out in the corner" http://thewigwambam.com/ http://www.myspace.com/wigwambam http://www.myspace.com/nmbandflyers http://www.myspace.com/dirtcitymusic http://www.myspace.com/dirtcityzines http://www.myspace.com/rebelradionm http://www.myspace.com/itchygreenthumb |

Almost literally ran into bl0cks on the street near Natural Sound. We were wondering where you were, then saw you at work. Did Dave bring you any food? This was the craziest brunch show yet. And quite possibly the last (for awhile at least). Thanks all who came on a hot day,,,right on Dave for the mimosas and hanging. Future of Cheerleading, Fando, and slow-ass touring bands.
