I'm prolly still gonna go. Last show I saw there was Celtic Frost. I hate that fucking place. <- Stun Guitar -> |

Why do you hate that place?

The room could def. use some sort of acoustic treatment to cut down on echo but I don't know what the big deal is. I think is a rad old theater and it's downtown! Be grateful peeps, don't take the Sunshine for granted!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine if there was no Sunshine. That would really suck. I'd rather see a show at Sunshine than drive to Santa Ana Center any day of the week. |

It sounds bad. Beer is more expensive than other places, and selection seems really limited. Before I go, I have to remember to leave behind the horrifically scary two-and-half-inches of STEEL DEATH that I sometimes carry in my pocket. If I forget, then I have to go back to car/home to drop it off. Waiting in line. Just open the doors and let us in, sheesh. Yeah, I know there are reasons for it all. And that's fine, since nobody makes me go to the Sunshine. And so, I rarely do. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the cooler places. That pretty much sez it all, except that for the BIG shows, the sound in the balconies is also stripped of all treble - if you're not on the floor, it's just "THUMPA-THUMPA.". Admittedly, I go there occasionally even so if an act that's playing there is a "must-see." Oh, yeah, and my kidneys still hurt from the pummelling they took as Neb & I clung to the barricades in front of the pit at Celtic Frost. <- Stun Guitar -> |

At least you have two of them to get pummelled, BRAGGER! (still the best) Hated (band in town)..... |

sometimes it's nice to use the bathroom and not have to stand in an inch of urine. i've only been there twice so maybe they were isolated incidents.

It is true, I held my piss as longs as I could when I went to "As I Lay Dying", knowing that the bathroom is gonna be full of drunk Navajo's puking, some goth dude in the corner sneaking a line, and the floor flooded with piss and toilet water, not to mention the are no little walls between the toilets. (Im pee shy) So I made my way up those stairs filled with 15 year old kids sitting down, I entered the bathroom, and all I heard was a long high pitched opera vibrado. "Holy shit, they remodeled the fucking bathroom, nice new clay colored tile floors, and walls, new shitters, and urinals, (and the little walls in between), even a mirror. So check it out, you dont have to be affraid anymore. http://www.myspace.com/blacktoothgrinnm "I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. 1. Sound in the room is unruly for sure. The venue was designed to carry sound without amplification. Some reggae bands actually love the natural reverb. We are working on improving sound in the room. Over the next year, we'll be putting more drapes up and exploring even more sound abatement techniques.
2. Alcohol pricing will remain at a premium. The theater overhead is high. I believe our pricing is comparable to what El Rey / Golden West charges. It's the part of the price you pay when supporting live music. Have a couple pints at Rio Chama before you go to the show. 3. Waiting in line is part of life. Here is my advice: Unless you are dying to see the opening act, show up one hour after doors have opened. By then the line is usually gone. You should be able to walk right in, unless we've sold out. 4. Don't bring weapons to Sunshine. Most artists require that we do patdowns. Danzig made us use metal detectors. 5. If you stand on the floor during a rock show, you must be aware that a mosh pit could break out. I'd prefer to never see a mosh pit again in my life, but it's part of the concert-going experience. Protect your guts and nuts. 6. Our new landlord is more cooperative than the previous. We are more confident about making improvements now. I'm as happy about the new bathrooms as anyone. Now if I can just figure out what to do about all the blood, hair and teeth on our new tile. |

I'm sure it's a pain to get landrords to invest $$ into capital improvements. I bet those bathrooms cost a small fortune.

a loss is only something you never had![]() ![]() |
that's so they can play even fewer notes and the audience won't notice .
how many club owners will tell you to drink at another club BEFORE going to theirs? before bagging on the sunshine or any other venue, how about considering all of the shows that go around (or right past) ABQ for whatever reason? we should be supportive of the clubs and theaters that put on these shows, even if we have issues with the sound/security/sanitation etc. OR think of the alternative. sometimes i think people in this town complain because they have nothing better to do. i know i do . |

Hearing they're at the Sunshine this time made me very happy that I got my ass out to the Launchpad last time. From what I remember it wasn't even that crowded at the Pad ... but then again as whoever that was said - their new CD rocks. But, I still can't get past their self-titled, maybe cuz it was my intro to them ...
Anyone else who was at the pad for that show have anything to say about it? I remember there was something off - maybe their energy, the set list - crowd energy or something ... I don't know, maybe it was just my weird mood but it seems like I remember leaving their less impressed than expected ... ~ Is this what boredom looks like? |
