Our drummer's girlfriend got so pissed about it that she threatened to never come to any of our shows (meaning that she won't bring girls around), and worse, we jam at her house, so that was slipping too. I kinda prefer Fascist Cop. It's still confrontational, but has less tired baggage, plus it covers a wider range of cops! You still wouldn't want to get pulled over with that sticker on your car.

Nope, I got nothing. You're screwed I guess. Since I still have the horror of our name change ringing in my ears, I'm kinda glad to see I'm not alone in disappointing everyone! If you go with Fascist Cop, they will all forget and go on with their lives soon enough though. I mean, they got over Death Cab for Cutie and Korn, right? Everyone has a stupid and/or plagurized name these days. It's in.

If you do go back to Racist Cop: I think "stick with racist cop" would make a great slogan. Or "racist cop is way better." Actually.... "stick with racist cop"; is that too long for a band name?

We mostly got over it, if for nothing else than to avoid the topic.

After this, you'll hate band names, and hate how every phrase suggests one on reflex... I still constantly play this game with myself: anytime I hear any combination of words ever, I think, "oh! that'd be a good name for a [genre] band!" and now I have about 100 pretend bands in every style. Nothing sounds good after a while and you'll hate whatever name you choose just because it's not quite right and you know that something awesome slipped your grasp. It's like having something on the tip of your tongue.

The biggest downer for me personally was the dozen or so better names we came up with since the change (which is locked in since we have the cd and website and merch with it).

#3: since we made the discussion/choosing public, some people feel thay have a say in the band somehow. Some people have never stopped giving us shit or bringing up the old name. WE HEARD YOU THE FIRST TIME: It's been a year, hate the name if you want but shut up about it. Plenty of bands with stupider names take far less grief.

But most of the time I don't think of it. I'm glad it's easy to design for, people can remember it, it wasn't taken, not too long, and it's google-able. I'm worried it won't age well, is too confining, doesn't stand out enough (especially with the wave of similar names I've seen since: I know why Panic! at the disco dropped the "!"). If your sound changes, either of your choices may haunt you someday, but:

You are ultimately the one who has to live with it every day, so suggestions and heckling from people who maybe wouldn't see you anyway or have no stake should be taken with a grain of salt. Not to metion people who take it your work personally: we still have people who refuse to see the band since we added Rachel (5 years ago!). It's a problem for anyone who puts something out in public, the cost of doing business.

So yeah, this thread and discussion will make it much harder, frustrating and longer... this was the mistake right here!
