A strange intro man held up a poster before these lush romantics took the stage:
Three things I love about Austin De vaca De vodka DeVotchKa Cheezy, but this was really one of the best shows we've seen since we've been out here. And it's OK to be cheezy around DeVotchKa. This group blows right past any cynical pretenses one might have and right on into a full-blown Frank Sinatra/Morrisey zone, where love is sweet and painful, and that's all your really need to worry about. DeVotchKa did the "Little Miss Sunshine" soundtrack, if you need a reference point. And surely you should buy at least one DeVotchKa album. We took some awesome pics of every show we've seen but failed to bring the required cords used to take them off the camera. I imagine photo blogs are coming soon. I'm standing up on this weird podium thingy called a blogger cage in a club called Volume. I don't have time to spellcheck, frankly. And I've knocked back a beer or two. I just saw Health, which is another band psych.noise.pop fans should discover. Aye! Pics coming soon. And coherancy. Promise. Marisa Demarco News Editor Weekly Alibi marisa@alibi.com |

DeVotchKa made me want to learn how to play the sousaphone. What an awesome show. I was sad to miss them the two or so times they came to New Mexico. I hope they come through again.
