Here's another question and perhaps one that nobody can answer... Can you get kicked off of MySpace for posting bulletins to "Buy our CD" OR putting PayPal buttons on your page.

In the terms it talks about not using MySpace for spamming or commerical use... it actually even says that you arent allowed to link to external websites!!

I've seen paypal buttons on a bunch of band sites. I just wonder if that will make them zap you.

Well, I have paypal and have had links to cd baby for a long time and never had any problem. They have so many rules.. it might just be one of those things they use to dump you if they want to dump you.

I think your fine! We've never had a problem and I've never heard of anyone having problems with it.

In other myspace question news,
Since I put up our new songs on myspace we have been getting play like crazy. It went from 1-2 a day to 17-37 a day. So i decided to check our ranking which was just about the bottom of the list, and now we are "ranked" 23rd. I think the change in volume of plays is big role in it. we are the same band but we jump 60 slots, i think not!

The rankings don't make any sense-some bands "ranked" in the top 50 in the area get 1 or 2 plays a day, so I'd hardly put a lot of stock in them.

It's the link that says "top artists" on the red myspace music line. Click it, then specify the geographic area you want to search.

Hell one of my friends' band has NO SONGS on it and they are ranked like in the 30s! I think the damn thing is just numbered and it is mostly random. too goofy to be anything with solidarity

I think I did a search for 10 miles from 87102 under "rock" and you guys were 60? I can't remember the exact parameters I used to find you, but you are up there. There were bands I've never heard of ranked above you with plays/friends around a dozen, so yeah, it's bullshit. My band came out number 1 for indie under garage for a long time. I assume we were the only band using garage in the description then?

At any time there are bands ranked above us who don't even play shows, so yeah, I gave up trying to figure it out. Right now we are 39 under rock, and this guy, with 16 friends and total plays about 1/5th of any one of our songs is ranked 35. No offense to that guy or anything, I'm sure he's great (no speakers on my computer), it just doesn't make sense. My new band is ranked 42 under "rock" and 87102, after being up for less than 24 hours, having no songs and having two friends...

I had started a thread on that subject earlier: myspace top artists If you go under the "search" thing you can rank bands by friends and plays and stuff though, at least that makes sense-ish (you can still load those numbers though with friend adders and auto-refreshes)
