Some dude messaged us last week about his service which could deliver us 1000 plays a day on myspace. I sent him a message back basically saying what good will 1000 fake plays do us?? He wrote back and enabled whatever voodoo to make us have a bunch of plays so on Sunday we had like 1110 plays on myspace. His service is $99 a month. I still don't understand how 1000 fake plays would do us any good other than making us seem bigger than we really are. I think there are a lot of bands out there that are actually using this type of service to make themselves look like they are blowing up. I think this is pretty lame.

On a different note, I found out about a service called google analytics (free) which basically tells you EXACTLY where your web traffic is coming from (doesn't work on myspace) I've come to learn that a lot of people looking at our site are from China and I clicked on some of the links to see that our music is being shared by several chinese mp3 filesharing sites. weird

Its usually pretty obvious when people are doing the fake plays thing. I saw a band once that had more plays then they had fans oh wait that was Brokencyde the first time they messaged us about a show ha!

We recently got software for myspace called spyder. It has options for fake plays and profile views but we don't use them. The main reason we got the program is because it downloads your friends and puts them in list form that looks like an I-tunes library. There are buttons at the top that sorts them alphabetically by state, city, or name. Its helpful when you tour to be able to pull up your friends in a particular city and send them a message about your show. The friends who respond are usually the ones willing to help us promote the show. We get a dialogue going with these people. So they spread the word and it usually results in other people adding us as friends. Its a lot better then sending a hundred friend requests and then those people just delete you in a month when they are cleaning out their friends. Then no one comes to the show.

The other effective use of myspace for us has been booking. Every venue now has a myspace page with booking info. Half of our shows are booked through myspace. The other half are through email and phone using the indie venue bible as a guide. By the way I don't recommend byofl.org as a resorce its really outdated and every person we reached through that site was flakey and the shows were shitty.

There is a lot of bullshit on myspace but over all its usefull.

i got like 40 plays on myspace yesterday... it was sweet.

Ours usually hovers between 50-100 per day, but I wholly attribute that to one crazy fan and the fact that we're in the Shins' top friends and that brings their fans who are curious over to our page.

We recently install that EgoNo software. No matter how many "hits", the player never shows more than 13.

Helps keep everyone's expectations in check...

When I look at the page of some lame band and see that they have 500,000,000 plays I know it's bullshit. We've always kept away from the "bot" thing. It's actually cool to know that we actually do have almost 20,000 real plays after 3 years, but i see no need to inflate that number falsely.

But, then again, if I was only in it for the chicks I'd certainly pump it up to 69 million plays per day, cause we all know that chicks dig people who are popular on Myspace. I'd also start writing songs about my Krunkness.

On another note, Myspace has bred us one or two stalkers in the past few years. It creeps me out.

This is where brokencyde got their sound. Hollywood Undead has been around for a while and I think they have at least a little real talent, and they don't seem to be so pathetically fake. Be warned though the lyrics are pretty emo.
