Do the Zombie!

Hey y'all,

I'm doing some research on local record labels based out of Albuquerque. If you're affiliated with one, respond back! We want to know about you—how long you've been around, who you represent, what genres you focus on, how many released you've put out, etc., etc. If you'd like, leave some contact information and I'll get in touch with you (or whomever).
Or just shout some local label names that you know of, even if you're not personally involved. Anything at all helps!

Thanks guys!!

Detach Records
Little Kiss Records
Science Project Records
Fraction Records
Socyermom records

Are there any more? I think Science project just does older, out of print local stuff? (Elephant, Scared Of Chaka, etc."classic" local scene?)
i don't really want to put words in the mouth of any of them (I haven't heard anyone complain about whoever they are with).

We are doing Socyermom, and it is ideal for us. As a band that is very DIY (we make all our own merch, design and website), we just wanted a leg up and it's worked out really nice. Plus, we are close to all the other bands with them.

As far as I know, none of these take submissions unsolicited, is that right? They pretty much know their acts.

There's a couple of other hip-hop ones I've seen around on Myspace and shit, more in other genres, but i don't know anything about them.

MeteorCity I really don't know a lot about other than they have had some BADASS bands (atomic bitchwax, nebula, solace) Get in touch with the Spiritu guys... I think they're part of it too.

I've started one called Vinyl Countdown (and yes..that is a tribute to one of the greatest songs ever by a little project called EUROPE).
It's not really going to be local though. I use it to put out my own bands (foxx and jealous gods) and also other talent I've seen when we've been out on tour. I'm also doing some reissues.

The next project I have coming up is a really really obscure 70s glam 45 reissue. I guess I'm catering to the record collecting crowd more than anything.

I'm trying to do some work with a guy in san francisco as well. Hopefully I'll be doing 5 or 6 releases a year. We'll see how it goes though. We're on release #3.

hey Zac, I'm sure you have no shortage of bands that you's like to make records of/for, but would you consider making other releases, maybe out side the Vinyl Countdown tag? Like the way Touch-and-Go, say, does P&D for a ton of other small labels.

What I'm asking here is this: if I wanted to put out some vinyl and had some money and a recording would you be willing to help someone out who was maybe outside of the aesthetic vision of your label?

I've actually been corresponding with dandee about this. I'm not so much interested in doing anything with local bands but I'd be plenty happy to help you out with vinyl releases and give you all the info you need.

If there comes a time when I can find proper distribution for the label than I'd be happy to some bands in under the umbrella to get distribution going for.

The Gracchi is looking to release a small batch of 7"s (like 250 or so)-- can you refer us to anyone off-hand?

Pretty much that's what I'm looking for too, maybe some splits, maybe different numbers. they just all seem so expensive at the online places I've looked at, and i just don't know shit about it. If I could get the inside scoop from someone i trust that would really be great. I'll totally bring this up down the road, thanks.

Levi, another couple of locals who have recently released vinyl are Edward Burch(foma) and Chris Mason(the answer lies).

They both went as diy as they could.
you might ask both of them what they learned...

Little Kiss is pretty active at the moment, with releases due very soon from The Darlington Horns(a full length, fully rocking disc), and a split 7" featuring Nels Andrews b/w Shine Cherries. We have our own studio, and if you are interested in doing a project, contact me.
