Anybody on here skate or used to? I decided to dust off the old deck while visiting my mom in Arizona over Christmas. Here is the video of that day. I used to skate a lot but quit several years back to play in bands, ironically. I realized a few things: I could lose 10 pounds, I'm getting old, and skateboarding is really fun. Feel free to post if any of you all have footage, even old stuff (ahem, Black...)

I'm impressed Maury. Goog stuff, looks like those days at Proving Grounds paid off.

I'm impressed to. On occasion, I've hung out at the skate parks just to marvel at all the daredevil action. These kids even do killer tricks with bikes and those skooter things with handle bars. Ever since I saw a buddy's skateboard fly out from under him while he was skating in a drainage ditch, I've been too pussy to give it a go. He slammed his chin hard on the concrete and had a hole there for like two months. Fuck that.

When I was a kid skateboarding and punk rock was my life. I lived and breathed it. I never had any interest in team sports or other highschool activities. All I wanted to do was skate (and play in bands when I wasn't skating Smile. In the early 90's when skateboarding started to become "cool" and hip-hop culture started creeping in is around the time I quit skating. I started skating again around 2002 when I lived in Jemez Springs and Rio Rancho built a nice skatepark with two mini ramps. Then we built a metal mini ramp in Jemez Springs and I skated that a lot. I gave it up again in 2005 when I messed up my knee real bad at Los Altos skatepark. You don't heal as fast when you're in your 30s.

Hey Maury, nice video. I like the frontside ollie over the gap!

You're right Webby, I remember when skateboarding was much more of a punk rock rebel kind of thing. In Dallas in the 80s there were a bunch of punks with mohawks and whatnot who hung out downtown and skated. One time this car full of preppies drove by and screamed "Punk rock sucks!" And everyone casually flipped 'em off "Fuck you, fuck you." Then this one dude, I can't remember his name, skated up the sidewalk and right towards their little VW bug (with the top down). Unfortunately for the preppies, they were stuck at a light. Dude jumped right over their heads and landed on his skateboard on the other side! One foot hit the ground, but he pushed off with it so it looked good. I think the preppies wet their pants. Someone said, "Dude, why didn't you kick em in the face?" "Dude, I would've come crashing down on MY face!"

Man, Dallas was the shit in those days. I was still too young to fully appreciate it, what with my conservative parents keeping me on a leash. I tried to trick them into letting me go downtown to see the Butthole Surfers once. My friend and I told them we were going to see a play at some place in Deep Ellum and got my Dad to dropo us off. Our real plans were to head down the street to the Twilight Room. But dad noticed us loitering around and not going into the place and he later pulled us out of the Twilight Room way before B.S. hit the stage. I later found out they didn't go on until like 3 in the morning and I would've had to leave before then anyways. I recently saw that Surfer's concert video from that same time, like '85, and I'm sure I missed one helluva show. The Twilight Room was a little hole in the wall with the bar behind a chain link fence to keep out the kids. That place was so FN rad

I hear ya, Webmonkey. I used to be absolutely obsessed with skateboarding, to an unhealthy level, I think. Incidentally, if anyone is interested in a little squawk skate session I'd be down. Buncha old fogies skating would be fun. Anyone?

That was awesome!

Dude I've been skating at the park out in front of Cibola the last year. It's got a nice open layout. There's all kinds from the little kids to like older cats doing old school moves. Good times.

It's the park off of Coors NW of Cottonwood Mall. Lights on till ten and it's been pretty empty with the cold at night.

MC, you fucking rip! Nice footage. I'm down for the squawk session for sure. Now the question is, street session or bowl session?

I once broke my arm skateboarding and refused to get a cast because we had a show the next week. It hurt like fuck to play my guitar because it was my left arm and I'm right handed, but it was doable with a few drinks in me. The moral of the story is, if you are a musician and you skate, don't break yourself. My arm healed fucked up by the way. It pops when I bend it now.

I tried it out in middle school, but like WebMonkey, it was starting to become cool to be a skateboarder and I instantly lost interest. The most I ever did was Bart Simpson down hills. Then I spent four years getting my hands on a bass.

So if you guys want a cameraman for the squawk skate frenzy, I'm in.

I would love an Indian School ditch session. The run is fun and then at the bottom there are those big bank to wallrides for the brave among us. We could go in a few cars and park on at the bottom so we don't have to walk all the way back up when we're done. Saturdays work for me, anyone else?

mc, you are ripping it. Fuck yeah! And bombing Indian School would be a top thing to do.

(and thanks to Scott Gates via Mike Bleeding Eardrum for unearthing that moment in time. fucking way early days me brothers...)

Saturdays are good for me. Sundays are better. Indian school is the shit. Anybody know the ice situation in the ditch right now? I've been skating 3 mile lately. Our drummer Nate will definitely be along for the session. We've also got some extra setups for people to use if anybody wants to ride, but doesn't have a board.

Here's an afterthought. I know someone that has an empty pool at his house and he skates it. Would anyone be interested in a house show with an eclectic music lineup and sick pool skating after bombing the ditch? If so, I can contact the guy with the pool, see if its alright, and make it happen.

Sounds like fun. I like the BS nose grind to fakie, myself. Nice vid Maury Smile

I wish I could find my old sesh vids with the old crew (no idea where they are - maybe my moms?). Anyhow, I have this hilarious VHS footage of 360 flip to fierce assplant (like complete ass cheek removal) over the concussion ditch tranny - very funny especially in slow-motion. I know Maury remembers that ditch. Also have some fun footage bombing Montgomery back in the day on our longnoards with my buddy Flint in Christmas of ... mustve been 1998-99. Christmas was the best day to sesh as there was no traffic & no cops to wreck your fun! Good times Smile
