That's freakin' funny. Pose-heads desperate to look cool, bumping around a club like some drunken Ray Charles.

I suppose Question mark has been posing since the 60s then? That guy has not shown his eyes in well over 40 years.

Absolutely. What a poseur.

Although I am adamantly opposed to the absurd practice of nighttime sun glass-wearing, and can commiserate with being annoyed by witnessing its practice, for the record, I always found The Mindy Set to be very friendly. And awesome. Not unoriginal, not amateurish. One of the best New Mexico bands that ever was.

Mean is pretty strong, but, funny story, I first met Mr.Dickens when I was in high school (94ish?). And even though he was always polite and even friendly, I had to re-introduce myself each time I met him again for the next like... well, ever. Cool We must have played at least three-dozen shows on the same bill while in various bands, I had a class with his wife, friends in common, I made buttons for them, and I'll bet he still doesn't know my name. (not that I'm good with names- don't take this as a dig or anything)

But seriously: what is a rock star without some attitude? I thought it was part of the schtick. Always stay in character. Also, I'm pretty forgettable in person when I'm not being an ass.

I never judge a band by if they liked me or not, or personality (well, maybe a couple times) if I did I'd probably hate all my favorite bands.

the first 2 years i lived here i only had my prescribed sunglasses as eyewear, as i had broken or lost my non-tinted ones shortly after moving.
this meant i wore "sun"glasses at night, jon waite be damned.

i never heard anything about it, but i am sure it was said.

it is all about disclosure.

i understand the non vision challenged seeing it as obnoxious, but i never faulted roy orbison for wearing shades 24/7 even before i had to wear glasses myself.

not that i am putting myself in his company...
he's a legend

I guess what I'm talking about has to do with style choices and not the physical state of your eyeballs. But I'm sorry if I ever saw you and thought you looked silly, although, chances are I didn't see you, being that I hate to wear my (non-sun) glasses.

I used to wear them onstage a few bands ago because I was terrified of being onstage. It was like a shield between me and the audience. It just so happened to allow me to rock the hell out and do things I probably otherwise wouldn't have.

I'm over that now though and being onstage no longer freaks me out.

We all gots our reasons!

Sunglasses inside=my eyes are always the first casualty of the night...and they only get redder and watery-er as I am enjoying adult beverages "responsibly" and repeatedly venturing outside into the alley for a "smoke" from a pipe "sold for tobacco use only"...or from one that comes with a rose in it at the gas station, chore boy sold separately.*GASP*

Poser? mmm, naaahh.
wasteoid? yeah.
running into shit like Ray Charles? yep--with or without the glasses.

For the record, Mindy Set was/is pretty good.

Oh man, I can relate to that. A while back (I think it was a Crawl) we were on the bill with them. They were all dressed in black and seemed intoxicated. They acted all aloof when I tried to talk to them except when they started menacing me for drinks and to "get them high". Then they became really aggresive and threatening and started laying into me about my musical abilities and started to...oh...wait...actually that was my band behaving like that towards me.

Whoops.

The Mindy Set were not only nice to me, but put on a great, atmospheric performance (as usual).

You sure that wasn't my band that treated you like that Skreech?

(still the best) Hated (band in town).....

I have a really funny/embarrassing story about the Mindy Set. When we first started our band, we were a 3-piece with Connie and I and a bass player. None of us had ever played in a band before, so the whole "scene" thing was really new. Our bass player was really eager, way too much so, and he went up to Dickens at a show and was basically following him around telling him how great they were, how he had a band too, and all that...Matt was obviously annoyed, but he was gracious about it. Connie and I were really embarrassed. We may have been new to the scene, but we at least didn't act like annoying little brothers trying to tag along with the cool kids. Needless to say, that bass player was let go real quick after that. Matt Dickens and I ended up having a class together at UNM after that, and became friends. They were my fav local band until they broke up.

All I have to say about this band, is that before I learned Jill's name, I thought she was named Mindy. I think I even addressed her as such, once.

Yknow what it wasn't the whole band I think it was just the singer or maybe the guitar player. But ET gave me the lineup cause in true golden west fashion nobody knew who was playing in what order. So I took it to sunglasses dude and asked if that was OK and I don't even remember what order it was but he said "Did you see the flyer? Our name is at the top which means we're the headliner." I think there was like three different flyers for that show. The names were in different order for each. But anyway our drummer was in earshot and he had a big ego at the time. Big egos are like big barn doors their easy targets. So yeah he got mad about the rockstar treatment. There was like 5 people there to see us and 7 there to see the mindy set so I didn't really care. I didn't really take it seriously and thought it was funny that josh did.

Gio had an akward moment when she bumped into who she thought was me at the bar in sort of a hey whats up fashion and then realized it was one of the mindy set dudes. He just looked at her like who the hell are you? She was embarrassed and walked off akwardly. Poor girl I don't really know why that was so embarrasing for her but she shutters when she thinks about it.

Aahhh Good times crappy GW shows.

We have yet to play a show with Black Maria but I look forward to the day we are treated like shit from Gordy and friends. Hell we could just have an all out punchfight on stage. The show theme could be The Road Warrior. Everyone has to bring chains, we could have a Road Warrior custom weapon contest.

Is the medically induce hiatus almost over?
