it is all about making friends![]() ![]() |
Atomic has a check-in time of 9 p.m. and (allegedly) if the band is not there or made some other arrangement, i.e. -touring band running late on the road, then you are off the bill.
this doesn't work out for anyone, but it discourages them from doing the "we're supposed to open, but we didn't show up til late, so we have to play late" thing. another great thing is when a band says that their drummer has to work late or some story, and they are really just hanging out at Burt's or drinking at the titty bar. why they think they can get away with this is puzzling, (especially since they usually run their mouths about it when they do get to the AC) like they are pulling something over on those assholes at the venue. again, i speak for myself, just to update the readers. things aren't going my way... that's YOUR problem now |

I remember the night when a local band played both atomic and burts and ran their mouth about getting paid double for the night.
We had to open the show because they couldn't make their set time since they had decided to play next door at the same time that night. |

I hate being double-booked.
It happens sometimes on accident, maybe two members booked bands or you got your calendar mixed up, maybe there is a show offer you can't say no to but want to fullfill your obligations and resposiblities. But who would do it on purpose? -You have to watch your sobriety (and your band members) twice as hard. they have drink tickets for two shows now and a longer period to stay sober in! -you have to move your shit twice. Even if it's nearby that's a pain; since the sets don't line up, you have to move through some kind of crowd... -you always end up comparing the two shows in a way that the unfavorable one sticks in your memory and taints the better one. -you can't put all you have into each show, so leave the first set having held back something or distracted by thinking about what you have to do next. -you dick the other bands on the bill by taking away even yourself as audience support. -you cannibalize your own audience by drawing them away from the venue you agreed to bring people to. If one of those shows has a cover charge, expect it to be dead and you to look bad. -you risk audience fatigue and band boredom if your set lists overlap, and if they don't you've left off good material from a set. I'm not saying it's always terrible, but it always adds a level of hassle that pushes it from being a good time to being a job. Are you sure the band was bragging and not just being sarcastically optimistic? |

I'm sure they were bragging. I won't name the band because I'm friends with some of them. That band doesn't exist anymore either as they broke up in the past year.
It pissed the Burt's crew off since that is where the band was originally booked. They picked up the atomic show that night because someone had cancelled over there. Of course, if atomic had known they were already booked at burts, I'm sure they(atomic) would have preferred to play the jukebox rather than create any disharmony between the venues. Just goes to show how selfish some of our local talent can be. |

Without names, this part of the thread is rendered useless. Might as well go back to discussing the Mindy Set... (still the best) Hated (band in town)..... |

Nice try. It'd be believable if not for the Atomic's ban on that band of jackasses*. That and the improbability of them having the wherewithal to lug all their crap more than once a night. And as Levi so astutely pointed out---there's that whole multiple drink ticket thing. They'd be too busy swilling booze to remember the gig, much less to brag. *not really. watch for them playing the mustache party at The Atomic Cantina next month. (still the best) Hated (band in town)..... |
