I see nothing shocking here... the 80's have been coming back and next decade, there will be a grunge 90's revival where everyone is muttering their lyrics, wearing flannel, and not washing their hair (just like what I did when I was in high school in the 90's).

It's hard to believe. 4.8M views, 20k comments, east coast tour, etc. They even have pretty good graphics on their page. I thought the pics were pretty fabulous, but they are no Vertigo Venus.

Since I have to work to stay employed at current job, it's a little harder for me to listen to music all the time. I snuck out the headphones to check it out. Their stuff is pretty badass. I feel like it reflects the new generation.

I like that HBAB picture too; I like the all-white! I feel like I'm watching a Southern courtroom drama. It has a very unified feel to it, unlike many band photos which look like just a group of random people (where often one doofus stands out and wrecks the whole thing). I've always thought (unsolicited opinion) that Hit By a Bus benefits when more focused rather than from range/variety, and this pic makes them seem more like a band of specifics instead of generalities. I'm for it.

I'm not opposed to style in general either though, or for that matter performance and just plain bullshitting. I think as much as "all style, no substance" can grate and wear thin, "all substance, no style" can be a lot of work without much fun. Some bands with anti-fashion, anti-scene positions can seem like a chore, where that philosophy also makes the music take a backseat, and makes it really hard to... I guess suspend your disbelief? I think too, that if you don't have some control over how you are percieved then you open it up to too many people framing you in their own terms, and/or ignoring you and writing you off just as quickly.

As much as Brokencyde is NOT my style, they seem to be committed to and own that bullshit, so can't be all bad. I'd never pop in that cd, much less write them fan mail, but then again I myself still am the type who will bitterly hang onto out of style (but still stylish) fad music scenes way past the expiration date. I've been watching everything I love die for YEARS, and expecting the rest to go at any moment, so am pretty resigned to kids coming up with things I just don't get. I mean, I thought the mass media was crazy the first time around, so predicted nostalgia from people who weren't even there shoehorned into current vacant trends isn't the most surprising thing that could happen.

Which isn't to say that I'm not down to make fun of them though! Their page and picture still made me laugh out loud. I just won't be killing myself, and, hyperbole aside, doubt any of us will.

Ummm...Brokencyde has been around for quite a while....when they were in Alb. they had ton of teen-chics posing for provocative pictures, complete with electrical tape across their nipples and 'BROKENCYDE' written in "blood" across their bodies. The music is nothing to be exited about, but those kids spent a ton of time marketing and promoting themselves, which is really where and why people "make it".
I am always getting bulletins from them on myspace. They are all over the place. So good for them.

I see no real difference, a glamour shot is a glamour shot.

I actually know one of the members of brokencyde very well (he is engaged to my sister) and I will be the first to say that Phat J is a musical genius. He was in my first band (the phalanx) and he can play drums and keyboards, can rap, sing and scream. I really don't like brokencyde that much but a few of their songs are funny as fuck (they write them to be so), and the rest are annoying (to me). You all need to stop the hating. Instead, why not think about redirecting this negative energy and using it as some inspiration or motivation for your music. I hated them at first too, but I was just jealous that my band isn't doing as good. BUT Fuck!!! I still don't understand their popularity!!!!!! WTF!

Far from making me want to commit suicide or murder, this just barely registers on my WTF meter. I've heard far better & worse music, and I've seen far more (& less) ridiculous "band looks."

Yeah, I remember the band name but I never really knew what kinda music they played, but fuck it, all the power to them...Whether you like them or not, they got us all talking about them and I'm pretty sure a few of us have told a friend or two to check out their myspace site!

But, they did have a pretty damn cool looking myspace site though.

That photo was taken by Nolan Rudi. I have mixed feelings about that series of photos. The broken window is cool. I don't think it's really "us" though. I think the only person that's been able to "get" who we are on film is Pez. But Nolan does really great work. Check out We Were Born As Ghosts. He did some of their photos.
