Hey we were just wondering about playing some other venues than the typical downtown bars. We know about elliot's, Turtle mountain, and our place II on the west side but what about the Northeast part of town? Any help with contacts or suggestions will be appreciated.

I believe Turtle Mountain closed, or they are remodeling or something.

Don't try Elliot's if you've got some underage members in your band. We got all the way down there and then found out they wouldn't let us play. I know not everyone has the problem, but I just thought I'd mention it ...

Well, there's The Barley Room, but they really like cover tunes in there and it's 4 one hour sets, bring your own mics and you can use their sound system. Oh, and a teeny-tiny stage.

Uh...There's Stone Face Tavern, but I've never watched a band in there.

Brian O'Brien's is closed....

(Something) Long Bar, Nuts & Bolts...I'm sure there are a few others, but I can't think of 'em right now.

That's all I can think of.

The "Tavern" Pub on Menaul is looking to book some multi-band Metal shows and the owner seems cool. Call 881-9931 to contact the bar.

Hope this helps some of you metalheads get more shows.

These are great suggestions, if you want to play a bland characterless venue.

well i wouldn't mind bland characterless venues as long as they would respond to us and let us play a show.

Caution: The venues are decent, but the booking guy can be slickery...

Golden west saloon would book a baby crying for an entire night on a Saturday night as long as some one called at least a month in advance to book it. Seriously they'll book anyone.

I've got five fingers and they want to meet your face!

I heard a rumor about some issues with H&L not paying an agreed amount and other artists cancelling their shows there. Are u talking about this issue or the guy who books Uptown and H&L.

They always treated us good and paid fairly in the past??? If you really want a wanking good time go play at Misty's. (joking)

A lot of the NE venues want a specific genre and most want the music volume controlled. Kinda makes it tough for Metal and Alt acts.

Good luck and "right on" to anyone crazy enuff to pursue live music.

The same guy now books for Uptown and H&L. There's too much about this guy to post here and I don't want to make this a shit talk thread, but just be careful if you book there. The "not paying" is part of it, along with no promotion and holding back money for it, etc.

nuff said! A lot of people read these forums.
I personally apologize for hurting any guitar players "feelings" by sharing the truth about money issues. I don't apologize for sharing the truth though.

Musicians get about 1985 wages for playing LIVE gigs here, so we should be happy we get to play at all. Certainly the venues have the final say.

Yeah...not to throw stones, but we worked for this guy and played a show for him at Uptown. The place was packed, but the bar paid him and he was supposed to pay the bands. He never paid us. I contacted him 3 times, sent him the bands address, etc... he said he was gonna pay us and never did.

We would play for free...as long as it's agreed upon ahead of time. The truth is that we actually do make some money playin shows, and that goes toward keeping us in the studio, payin for gas, merch, etc...

It sucks when heshers don't pay.

but, i'm over it.

Hey what happened to Harlows? I think I remember someone saying many months ago that it closed down but I have heard people mention it since then. Is it gone or what. Walked by it on a Saturday mornin at midnight and it was dark, deserted.

Ya, it's gone. They were operating under a non-existent liquor license, and were thus shut down.
