We had a couple of names in mind when we chose ours. All ment the same thing though (see what happens when u use a Thesaurus to make a band name? haha). We had 3 choices: Kronic Obsession, Rash Obsession, and Soliced Affliction. Soliced Affliction sounded too heavy, though I do like that version of the name, and Rash Obsession, that sounds just plain ugly.

But in the end we choose Kronic Obsession. We knew we were gonna get all kinds of shit for it (i.e. Dr. Dre "The Chronic") but we said fuck it. We like what it means, "uncurable need" or whatever, for the music. I think it fits; unless we're on those list of band's who's name doesn't fit their music? Either way like everyone else, we've invested a lot into it, so its sticking

BTW i really would like to see a nice metal band with the name "Soliced Affliction"; just wish it didn't mean the same thing our name does. haha

One of my bands is called Weapons of Mass Destruction and I get some shit for naming it that. I don't really care though. I think my perception of my bands and their music is more influential to me than other peoples' opinions.
But yeah, sometimes I like the name and sometimes I don't.

At first I thought Weapons M.D. was an awful name, that it would have too many wrong connotations, or get dated too fast. It's grown on me though. Time has given it different and more apt connotations (at least to me).

I totally thought Kronic Obsession would be gangster rap! Or at least rap-rock. They aren't though. More of like a pre-Nirvana west coast alternative/college thing. It's weird to think a word like Chronic, with a dictionary definition, would become so co-opted. It kinda cracks me up.

There was a lot of going back-and-forth between our guys before settling on Proof of Concept. Somnambulist being my favorite rejected name (literally "sleep walker") but our singer couldn't say it. Or spell it.

Our name has kept us focused though. We've all come to this project from different backgrounds and, although we take influence from these other styles, it helps us stay on task for writing music for this band. We've all had other side projects to keep us supplied with the other styles we crave (I do COBRA//group so I can play every style every 30 minute set).

I have a side project I do on my own called Leadslinger; I like that name a lot and it's perfect for the sound. Lots of gun samples, programmed synths and such, upright bass and hopefully some twangy guitars when I get to it. Ministry meets The Meteors or something like it.

My all time favorite band name? Buster Highman and his Swinging Organ. You have to say it out loud to get it.

I've been know for dropping a few bucks to see a band solely on their name. I'ma sucker for creativity. But what I always hate are band names that people have to explain what they mean. I'm not and idiot, but I can guarantee that if I don't understand it (or at least think I understand it), I'm not going to remember it or give you my money.

we have some great video footage of some old lady on a cruise in the bahamas. She asks our camera guy "Am I gonna be in a movie?" and he says "no...you're gonna be on our website."

She asks, "oohh. A website...what is it called"

"Five Minute Sin...fiveminutesin.com" he replies. The look on her face is priceless.

And that is why we chose Five Minute Sin. It makes people pissed...curious...malicious...and for that they remember.

Well Levi, there IS another sweatband out in tucson. Nice folks actually. I am the reason we changed the sweatband. I absolutely hated and despised that name. Although I don't think we were ever all too happy with The Foxx it was one of those things that just happened. We had a cd that needed to be pressed and we needed a name and we had about 2 days to come up with one.

The last rondelles record was called The Fox...so it was a fitting name to move onto I think even if it wasn't the perfect one.

Or just do what we did. Wait until the day of your first gig after years of practicing to see your name on the bill read as...Third Hour! I don't think the four of us ever decided on that particular name. I know we were shooting out ideas one day at practice and that was one of the many alcohol induced suggestions. I mean we had decided on The Smoking Hot Dank Chamelons at one point, but come on, can anyone really fit that on a t-shirt or buttons for that matter? So, we decided to go with that. Even though, I do get asked if we're some sort of christian band from time to time. My favorite band names here locally have to be Captain Standish, Devil Riding Shotgun, Simfonik Plague, Unit 7 Drain, Five Minute Sin, Left Brain, and The Attic Banned! I just like the way those sound!

I used to think Kronic Obsession was a rasta-rock band. I think if I were to start anew, or do a solo thing, I'd name it something really socio-political like "I, Citizen" and then write about how cool it is to watch kids eat pudding or something totally mundane.

I've always like the names Hawk and a Hacksaw, Romeo Goes To Hell, of god and science, Five Minute Sin, and Hey, Dandee! Good stuff.

I, Citizen has a good sound.

And so begin the band discussions about renaming the band. The go something like:
"I don't care what we name it as long as it has 'tron' in there. Like 'Microtron.' "

"No way. It should have something to do with whales, like 'Ambergris'"

"No one knows what that is. 'Ambergris,' yeah, let's go see 'Ambergris.' "

"I want it to be about little machines taking over the world. Like 'Wind-up Destruction' or 'Something Gadget.' "

" 'Gadgettron?' "

" 'Mounting Gadgets?' "

"Dude, that's dirty. Think about it."

" 'Gadgettron Ambergris Destruction?' "

Ay. Suggestions? Hey the more the merrier. Just save me from "Gadgettron Ambergris Demolition Project or Whatever."

How 'bout "TRON - Deadly Discs"?

It's for cleaning electrical stuff. It sounds cool, and doesn't really mean anything. Though in this context it makes me think of some kind of robot-whale byproduct... It's easy to remember, nobody else would be using it- for a band at least.

Well speaking of that. . . you can't actually "copyright" you band name. You can however trademark it, which basically prevents anyone from "copying" the likeness of the name.

Once you get a piece of work that your ready to copyright, just get some form online from the US Copyright office (links from that website u found). fill 'em out, send in 30 bones with it and ur done.

Now here's the cool part: if you have a collection of songs in album, ep form, you don't have to throw down 30 bucks for each song. All you gotta do is submit one form for the full collection of music and fill it out under the album's name. Doing it this way actually secures all works under that title, and also saves you from having to shell out like 300 bucks for a whole album.

Also once you copyright a song , and produce recorded material under your band's name, that'll basically secure your band's name.

Mark did ours, so he would prolly explain it better though haha.
