Yeah, its all B.S. I saw that same news program and how they are pushing the old IceHouse to still make it a community center for teens to hangout, the last time I drove by where the old icehouse was it wasn't in a great place....Face it, teens wanna go where all the cool kids hangout and face it, downtown is where everybody wants to hangout at, if they were really serious about having a place where the teens can hangout and still feel that they are part of the older fun crowd, turn Club 7 into "Club 17 and Under"...I figure they have half the police department down Central anyways so it should be easier for them to keep an eye out for those naughty teenagers.....
Peace.
John
p.s. whats Marty's wife up too lately, haven't seen much of her as of late!

Wow. This is unbelievable, but the Launchpad just won the Nickelodeon Parents' Pick Award for "Best Place for a Parents' Nite Out" in Albuquerque. Check it out for yourself. ... right next to "Best Place for Family Bonding"!
The Launchpad should not be punished because another club is breaking the law. We all need to stand up and fight for this. Write letters to the mayor and the the governor who is now apparently getting involved. Tell them how you feel.
If a parent does not trust their teenager to make good judgments then they should go to the show with them or make them stay at home.
The mayor is really hung up on the whole "all ages events create a predatory environment" which to me is really off.
Walking down 4th Street Mall at night is a FAR more predatory environment.
Teenagers are actually a lot safer INSIDE of an all ages show that out on the streets of downtown Albuquerque.

Whether the Mayor realizes it or not, the result of no liquor sales at an all-ages Launchpad event would be devastating financially. Case in point: Tuesday's Eyedea & Abilities show was a well attended all-ages event. The upstairs area, bar, and patio had nearly as many people all night combined as the floor. Those patrons were obviously over 21 and in those areas to drink. when the kids were kicked out at 11pm the garage door was raised and business continued until 1am. How much money do you think was made from those drinking patrons? Probably pretty close to the under-21 door total if not more. When you subtract that as well as the number of tickets purchased by patrons over 21 that would bypass an alcohol-free show: you're looking at a significant loss of revenue.
An obvious reaction might be to book fewer all-ages shows since they cost more to put on (extra security) and are less profitable. That would suck, because it would reduce the number and variety of acts that would play there. That would most likely lead to fewer paying customers in the long run. So the 'Pad gets screwed either way.
I think what the Mayor is proposing is ultimately harmful to all of us; especially the folks that make our living from the local entertainment industry.
We should put our heads together and not allow this travesty to occur. The city council still has to approve this kind of ordinance. Let's utilize our collective command of the media and start a campaign against this. We could certainly count on the support of the businesses that would be impacted by this stupid idea. Don't you think?
We could actually use Rocksquawk as a vehicle for positive change and save the scene in the process. Comrades are you with me?

Yes, just as 3 years ago, when we kicked their sorry asses the first time. If they need another lesson, we'll teach them again.

I actually have a plan for fascist-style armbands. I've just been tied up with work and band and money and health issues. The world moves faster than I do. I'll be getting on it soon though! Best I can probably do is September? Would that be too late? Will he have destroyed us all before then?
I guess only two other 'Squawkers really give enough of a shit about this situation to really consider doing anything about it. That's actually kind of surprising. Oh well...bummer. Go ahead and keep on paying more attention to really important stuff like fantasy shows and wacky pictures from the web. Don't bitch when the ordinance goes into effect.

Slow down, friend. This week, all Marty has done so far is renew his vow of enmity against the people of Albuquerque, but his actions seem to be limited to Club 7 (and possibly for legitimate reasons).
What is there to do? Marty's cards aren't on the table yet.
