El Lobo de la Guitarra

for the first year we were together we had a keyboardist. eventually he just couldn't put in the time the rest of us could, and he wasn't quite dedicated enough to actually learn all his parts for songs we had been playing in all that time. some nights he'd nail it, some nights he'd be on a different planet. eventually we had a talk with him, and we all agreed it was best for him to not be in the band anymore. he wasn't fired/kicked out, nor did he quit, it was mutual and it was fine. he moved away, and when he comes back sometimes we still see him. if it's not gonna work out, it's not gonna work out, it's not the end of the world, it's just a band.

Just don't invite the replacement over for practice on the same night you're telling your bandmate he's being replaced.

That was total douchebaggery on my part.

And you didn't have to tell me it was because I was too ugly.

Whatever dude. You know it had everything to do with the rest of us feeling overwhelmed by your gentlemanly charm and extraordinarily good-looks.

I was fired once for showing up 10 mins late a few times and taking a trip without telling the band and missing a rehearsal. The poor guitarist freaked out so much that he got all hoarse and out of breath on the phone. They had guys come over to listen in/audition while I was still rehearsing with them.

If you are firing someone, consider how difficult it might be to find someone to fill the role. My advice is to have a few potential replacements lined up, especially if they play a key instrument like the drums.

Also, if anyone knows of a good singer for Left Brain (not many requirements, aside from a minimal 3rd grade reading level) let me know...

Just decide who is essential for the band to function and then kick everyone else out. That's sort of what we did, and now there are only two of us, but we've never been happier.

I feel the same way. We've been thought of doing the opposite, adding members to the three piece...We always decide that we don't want another girlfriend.

I couldn't imagine anything worse than juggling three girlfriends, and none of them will sleep with you.

Sometimes sleeping with your bandmates is a good thing...strengthens the relationship. It seems to be working for The Giranimals. Wink

Too funny, it happened to a friend, now he just plays with himself and a delay pedal!

Yeah, until you end up with two little clones of yourselves.

i think death valley days kicked more people out than any band i know of... gary had it down to an art... but he'd do it in a really mean way... which was quite humorous until we realized we had to get another fucking drummer.

that is all

I got, I guess you could call it fired, from my last band. The drummer and other guitar player showed up at my door and said "we've decided to move on as a 4 piece, thanks for all you've done for us" The pisser is I never really got a good excuse why, basically I was told "we're simplifying things, because something is off" Never mind the "off" part was because the bassist couldn't tune his damn bass right. I'm looking at the bright side though, I no longer have to play in a cover band that is pretty much starting to play the same shit every other cover band seems to play, and I never have to play Sweet Home Fucking Alabama ever again!

Our bass player fired himself. We want to tour he doesn't so it can't work. He's being really cool about it though he's letting us use his bass amp to audition people and we might buy it from him. I think we'll have to hit the road as a four piece in a few weeks. We've changed bass players before and its never taken more than a month. But albuquerque seems to be tapped as far as bass players go right now. I'm suprised it's been this difficult. I understand touring is hard but we have a new album and plenty if momentum whoever joins would hit the ground running. It doesn't require the usual work of finding several non flakey musicians writing material and recording. Hopefully we'll find the right guy or gal soon.
