Hey guys, so tomorrow night we're having a final show, so to speak. Our singer Ashlee and our guitar player J quit over the last two weeks. I need some advice, replacing a guitar player is one thing, but replacing a singer? Should we get another female singer or just find any one that fits? Should we change our band name?

...and if anyone wants to go, the show is at Our Place II (Coors and Irving, thats on the westside) 9pm, $5. Nunchuk is also playing with us.

Once you relpace the guitar player and singer that's gonna basically change a lot of the dynamics of the band. I would change the name and start fresh.

Yeah, if you change the singer, you have to change the name.

No you dont. You can do whatever you want to do. After all, it's rock n roll and there are no rules. Besides, one of my all time fav rock groups, AC/DC, got a new front man and rocked just as hard as before and they didn't change their name.

Orio, do what feels right to you. If it feels ok to keep the name and rock it with a new frontperson, then do it. If with the new additions the music is just too different, then rdo something new and rock it like you mean it, brother.

peace- Cool

I'd stick with the name because it's pretty well known.

Orio,

I will sell you the name "Hey, Dandee!" for your new band. Its only slightly used.

Yeah, ok. You don't have to. AC/DC is a good example. I guess I'd also say Misfits maybe or Hot Hot Heat for sure are better having gotten a new singer. I always thought Ashlee was a big part of the sound, but hell, I don't know who writes the material and I'm sure you'll do fine. I had a knee-jerk reaction based on a few glaring betrayals of bands who changed singers, but that's up to you to decide. You have put in a lot of time, releases, press, etc under the name and it seems a shame to waste it.

This is sad news! I say take Rhian Batsons advice. Do whatever feels right. I'm going to miss the old Ki they were always one of my favorite bands and they helped us get our start back when we were playing as Noncents. And for that I'm truely greatful!

Looking forward to rocking out tomorrow night and checking out the last show with Ashlee and J.

On another note it might be NunchuKs last show for a bit as well, our drummer is leaving for two years and though we will replace him its going to take awhile to find the right replacement..... Its very sad....

If these two people leaving were the primary song writers, either lyrical or musical, then you should start with an entirely clean slate.

Just went through this with our drummer, After lots of advice, the above is what i saw to be the greatest wisdom

the dude abides

My ass could write a better song with one cheek tied behind my nuts!!!

Do you have any extra merch lying around? That would be great! Thanks for the advice guys, I do feel that getting the name out there for the last five years would be a waste. I don't want to start from scratch again.

I tried to quit my band a couple of weeks ago, but they wouldn't let me. Rexx threatened me physically.

Good lord, guys! And, meanwhile, RAMS' Raytard has taken off his tin foil hat for a bit to play a gig later this month at the Atomic.

I guess the pond is just turning over.

Orio, sorry to hear about the band issue. Our bands kind of "grew up" together, so I'm gonna miss Ki. I guess now is a good time for you, John, and Troy to think about any new territories you want to explore. And by territories, I mean music.
It sucks having to change a band name, but I think the name Orio is synonymous with Ki, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue for you, especially if you let people know via the Alibi & your websites.
