As the final touches of our new album near, it is time for the CD Release party, is there anything different about this gig than the rest besides that we should promote the ever loving shit out of it? What does it take to have a successful release? We havent started anything as of yet and we are thinking late September or early October.

make sure you have a friend who can sell merch for you while you're on stage. also, if you're having an over-21 release, sometimes booking an all-ages one a short time later is not a bad idea. good luck! and try to play with bands that you love and that are your homies.

Here's my tips...

1. Most importantly make sure your CD is printed and in your hands at least a few weeks before the show.

2. Send your CD to all the local media and follow up with a phone call to make sure they give you some ink

3. Don't play any shows a few weeks/months prior

4. Flyer and promote heavily

5. Yes, have someone to work the table while you play.

Good tips, webmonkey. Edith Grove is gearing up to release our second album in August. I'm getting the big ol' flyers put together right now and I get to devote part of this weekend to putting new press kits and radio kits together. We have our CDs in hand already (always the most important component).

Another good idea is to have those quarter size paper flyers on you at all times to hand out to anybody you run into. I'm making some of those this weekend, too! Just be sure they're easily readable...I've been handed many a small flyer that was nearly illegible.

I got the GOODS from my housemate. He orders it off of a chek republic website where you can buy canabas vodka and an array of absinthe'ses's. my friend has bought hmmm 3 big bottles from the site and they were always good in service.

Good stuff too. like the exact kind Hemmingway and van gogh drank. last nights bottle bottle was expensive, $200 im glad i didnt pay for it!

Anyway its illegal to sell it IN the US but you can buy it and have it sent from another country no problem.

Personally I have only seen the room get quite a bit brighter on it, but my housemate has drinken enough to where he heard things that were not really there.

Ill get back to you with the website. The authority on this matter probably has a hangover!

Here ya go Webmonkey

read this before you think you are going to trip on absinthe. Not so much hearing stuff thats not there but a small general hightening of senses

scroll to the top of the page

http://www.gumbopages.com/food/beverages/absinthe-heads.html#himself

And here is the site to go to

www.absinthe.bz If you want the good stuff get something with a lot of "Thujon" the active ingrediant.

I've been to more than a few "release parties" without cds. It is lame.

AND be wary of any you see on U.S. shelves. There is a lot of fake shit going around.

Here's the best and most affordable place to go for "the goods": www.spiritscorner.com in Spain. They have the actually good stuff among their extensive collection. Always go for airmail shipping to the US. You'll get your best rates/quickest delivery that way. Good brands for starters: Deva and NS. Even with shipping, two bottles of Absenta Deva comes to under $100.

Great book to dispel the myths: Absinthe, History in a Bottle. Required reading.

Beware of Czech absinthes, anything that looks neon green. High thujon levels aren't everything...and may not be much at all. It's more about the push/pull effect of the variety of herbs that go into a well made absinthe. I tried a Swiss absinthe recently, totally clear, very lovely. Expensive. The higher quality Spanish brands (like Deva and NS) are generally reliable and affordable. Have fun!
