will you/can you play at? Can you meaning the venue will book your band. Terryb's post about how many venues there are in Portland got me thinking.

Just about any of 'em. Will we play there? That's up for debate.

I livd in Portland for a few years, and it's true the music scene there is huge. I atribute it mostly to the lack of outdoor activities due to the non stop rain.In fact I think I heard it's 2nd only to Austin as far as bands and venues per capita.
On the other hand Albuquerque has a lot of places willing to let bands play.
since I rarely leave my house I can't name all the places but I would think there must be at least 20 or 30 places in 26 mile radius know as Albuquerque

No Pavillion, Kiva, Kimo or Sunshine. Otherwise we've done 'em all, at least with one band or another (actually, Noelan has done them all, I think). Many of them we will never go back to though. We greatly prefer the three.

I wonder how many I can count.

The Agency, The Stove, Dead Men's Den, The Cell, The Compound, The Lauchpad, Atomic, Ralli's, Sunshine, Burt's, Journal, Sandia Casino (Ballroom mostly) Isleta Casino, Route 66 Casino, RB Winnings, The Tavern, The Telos House, Uptown Sports Bar, UNM Ballrooms, The D Lot, A number of churches, The Barley Room, Our Place II, Amped Performace Space, The Box and that's just what I counted off the top of my head. So that's 25.

Most of the time you have to know someone at that venue to get booked there. Otherwise you'd have to ask.

How many are worth playing at? We'll to each their own.

There are also a number of festivals in Albuquerque every year, and if you're willing to travel a bit there's even more places in towns like Tijeras, Bernalillo, Placitas, and Madrid to name a few.

What makes a venue a good venue to play at? Built in crowd? Pay? Or a lack of douche-ness by the owner/booker?

Let's see, we've been booked to play probably a dozen or so places in town. But places we prefer to play-maybe 4 or 5.
