Are looking for soundtrack music for their films and volunteers to help out during the fest over the next few weeks. Please check out the website: www.dukecityshooutout.com and download the volunteer application and get it back to me as soon as possible. We are looking for event and festival volunteers, not production volunteers. This is an excellent way to do some networking with both the film and music industry folks and I highly encourage you to get involved.

This is from the 48 Hour people in an email I received from them:
"If any of the musicians are interested in providing the musical scores, we should get them in touch with the filmmakers. We give awards for the "Best Original Song" and "Best Original Score".

All of the music that our filmmakers use needs signed release forms. We can't screen the films without the release documents."

If you want to submit your music for consideration for a film soundtrack, please email it to me as an mp3 at abqmusicassociation@yahoo.com as soon as possible so that we can screen it and get it in the hands of the producers at once.

Did any local musicians get their songs accepted? Just curious, we went and met with the team leaders for the 48 hr film festival. Very cool shindig and a ton of hits on our site but no phone calls yet. Just hope they aren't using cuts of the music w/o permission.

Rock on! (We re-engineered the song samples with a sonic maximizer and stereo enhancer, made a huge difference in the sound quality)

Black you are so right - that issue is FAR from over, trust me on that!

I DO think it would be a good idea to have a benefit show at the District to offset John's medical and legal expenses. As I understand it, he is uninsured.

We (ABQ Music Association) will contact musicians/composers who have been selected as we have the release forms which must be completed before the film(s) can be screened.
Correction 7/17/06: Musicians/composers whose works are chosen should be contacted by the directors of the film(s). Music cannot be used without a signed release form -that's tha rules and they stick by 'em!

The 48 Hour Film Project's filmmakers won't know what music they're using until they do the editing. The project is kinda like improv for film. The 7-minute films are completely unscripted and the filmmakers don't even know what their film is going to be about until they are given a random idea at the kick-off party. They then have 48 hours to shoot, edit and screen it.

Duke City Shootout (DCS) is similar except that the films are 12 minutes long and the filmmakers have 7 days to shoot, edit and screen them. They have their scripts in advance so it's possible that we'll hear from them soon. I can confirm that the Ben Martinez Project has been selected, but that's the only one so far.

I HIGHLY encourage all musicians/composers to attend the Insomnia Lounge at the Hyatt during these events. The Lounge is open 9am-2am, July 26-29 and will feature presentations and networking opportunities by leaders in the video gaming, animation, and film industries. Some folks who will be there include: Bill Hanson (Apple), Torin Lucas (CEO of Thunderbird Games), Dan Netter (live event producer of the Emmy's and AFI's 100 Years), Jeff Hobbs, Gerald McDermott, Ken Dozier; reps from BitTorrent, and Revelation Studios just to name a few.

At the National Hispanic Cultural Center, there will be a special presentation honoring Ralph Bakshi (Fritz the Cat and others) which will include an interview as well. This event is on Friday July 28th.

This is a great way to get to know folks in some other areas where music is used....

Volunteers are needed to work through the fest, mostly parties and events, screenings and stuff, set-up and tear-down, guest greeters, ushers, etc. etc.
If you are interested in subimtting music or volunteering email abqmusicassociation@yahoo.com
