Question:
Why are there so few women on Rocksquawk.

Let's try a different poll.

Choices:
Karma measured in Bra Sizes
Better things to do
Can't play instruments
Afraid to speak up
More interesting guys elsewhere

Sweet lord, lady, do you have to get back on this women crap again? You seem nice and all, but I'm really starting to think your in the wrong place.

And PS: Paying the way for your "man" does not constitute "supporting the scene".

Excuse me Lucas Spider. Your recent comment was spectacularly lame and I could not let it go by without comment. What old lady describes as what she does for the scene most certainly does support the scene. Your 'scene' doesn't flourish in a vacuum. But you go on with your bad self and see how many fans it wins you in the real world.

Hallelujah on the postscript Mr. Lucas Spider.....I've been wondering the same. Old lady, where exactly is your "old man"?? I mean, I'm truly not trying to be a bitch or anything but it seems strange to me that you're the one doing all the yapping on this board yet HE'S the supposed musician. Does everything get filtered and approved thru u first? Or maybe you're his mouthpiece? Just curious. (And for the record, because I'm sure you'll call me on it at some point, I'm not a musician but I LOVE music and that's why I'M here.....NOT, however, riding the coattails of some "mystery" musician.)

Okay, well anyway, I guess that's enough for now.... Wink

All right, some more Plague response to nonsense!! First off, this is getting absolutely fucking ridiculous. Everyone needs to cool their fucking jets. I'm not going to dick on anyone's views, but isn't a much more appropriate question, "Why are there so few females playing rock music in Albuquerque?" How many all-female acts are there in town? Personally, I could give less of a fuck about the gender of a musician, as long as they DON'T SUCK!!! An all female act deserves not one iota more attention because they happen to be all female. If the music is good, why in the name of sweet bejeezus would it matter? Look at Kittie. Good band, and NOT because they're females. If you want to have a musical discussion involving the musical merits of a musician, let's have it. This is a fucking MUSIC forum for the love of pee(I mean Pete.) This/these thread(s) is/are extremely petty and rather self-indulgent. Again, I am NOT trying to wipe my ass with anyone's feelings, but this whole thing seems like a ploy for attention, which attention has CERTAINLY been received. I mean, where in the fuck did everyone's sense of HUMOR run off to?

(ok terry, maybe Kittie is a stretch. They're good live, though. Let's take someone like Cindy Blackman, Kravitz's drummer. I doubt she's playing with him just because she's female.

Personally, I believe that there are less women in rock because women are less talented than men.
Also, because they have no cock with which to "rock out".

I'd have to disagree with you Mike. I don't think Kittie is a very good band. I do, however, think they're famous because they're and all female metal act.

Hi goddess. You ask some straight questions and I do not think you're trying to be a bitch. I'll give you fair answers.

The old man doesn't participate because he thinks there's not much to be learned from this place. I won't tell you what he says because it's not very complimentary. However, I still have an open mind - at the moment anyway. I'd say the average age here is about 26-32....about twenty years younger than me. I speak for myself - I never speak FOR him....though I may talk ABOUT him in a general way once in awhile. He does his thing, I do mine. God forbid, I'm sure he doesn't want to get called out to the alley behind the Atomic because someone got a little too heated up over something I said. And as Ms. Black says....it's only a little online forum. It ain't the center of the universe....just a place where people exchange ideas. I think EVERYONE has a right to an opinion and I don't think it has to be the same as mine.

Have to admit, folks sure have been heated up over something I'd consider pretty simple the past couple of days. I didn't ask someone to donate a kidney or anything....just right what I consider to be a wrong. I don't think I've tried to insult anyone personally, but I do speak my mind straight out. Can't apologize for that.

I started reading the forums about 1 1/2 years ago. Didn't post anything...finally came on and registered trying to do a little research on crowd reactions...and that's when I found out there were very few ladies here. Seems a crying shame - I wish there were more. I see a lot of them out and about downtown at the venues, both onstage and off (I work downtown and sometimes wind up going out for Long happy hours), but I rarely hear them speaking out. I think they might have something to say about something BESIDES their bras or how cool they think the boyzz are. Given, there are some top notch individuals on here...of the male persuasion.....when they aren't reacting defensively that is.

I love music too (and the people who make it) and last I hear I did not have to be a musician to participate....no more than you do. It's a public forum advertised in a free newspaper and run by a free newspaper. While many DO seem to react like it's a private club (and in the past maybe it was), I think you will see that change and expand. Given the general EX-clusive atmosphere, it might be good for a few to consider different horizons and different view points. I don't use the really nasty cuss words, I am trying to be positive. But in that same vein, I STILL think the bra sizes need to go. Growth and change can be very good things.

Because of this place, I've managed to blast the old man off the couch and go see some of the "younger" bands downtown. We've never missed a Crawl, but that's not always representative of the "good stuff". If an old lady can have an open mind, why not a young lady? Fair enough? Wink

You know what women should really be up in arms about? Clothes prices. I'm doing the t-shirt thing, and the shirts cut for ladies are WAY more expensive than the men's, even though they A) use less fabric B) have more competition and C) have more supply. Any women not starting a letter-writing campaign right now is a sucker.

Jim, Lucas, and Kronic....I can be nice to you too.

I think music encompasses a LOT of territory, social as well as technical. That's why this particular section of the forum is called General Chatter. You won't find me on the band forums unless I decide to order buttons or compliment someone on a performance. If it got a lot of attention, it's because people were interested....including you!!

I certainly don't want to have a pissing contest with you out behind the Atomic. I don't have the equipment for it. But how about it? Do you think you could live with something other than bra sizes? Please. I'm asking as nicely as I can. Not as a femi-nazi, not as someone who thinks you're bad people (I don't). But just as someone who prefers to see women treated as human beings.

Old Lady,

Don't worry, I don't think anyone is mad - just killng time at work more than anything. But anytime you show up at a place and start complaining about it you probably won't get the warmest reception. If you went to the Launchpad and complained that a flyer showing a woman was offensive, you probably wouldn't be welcomed with open arms there, either.

I think everyone here is very welcoming of new people. It's just when people start bitching about little frivilous things we have a "If you don't like it, don't post here" attitude.

Oh, rock music and pretty girls pretty much go together I think. And if the gal poses for a flyer, then she's making a choice and probably being at least partially compensated for it. Unfortunately, THEIR choices sometimes make it a whole lot harder for a female musician to be taken seriously. I'm sure their band mates respect them, and their friends/family. But the world in general? The flyer girls don't see the larger picture it creates....the picture BEYOND the flyer. That can't be changed.....at least unless the music world changed. We can't address that here.

THIS place doesn't present a choice though. And I think you could probably get a lot more people of the female persuasion on here if they HAD that choice. Maybe the boyzz could keep their bra sizes if they really REALLY wanted to (though after that picture from Foodstamps, I doubt it.) Why is EVERYONE forced to accept it?

I see Jim isn't a Moderator or a Bra Cup. HE had a choice.

Swingnut is a musician, maybe a really good one. She was offended. She didn't want the bra sizes. Why can't she decide? Her first visit sets off a pretty mean argument.....how do you know what you're missing there? Maybe she had something good to say.....maybe she just wanted somebody to dump the darn bras.

PS...by "flyer girl", I assume you mean one of the bazoomba type that's just there for show.....not really IN the band.

Well oh boy. I finally yakked myself into a bigger bra size. Ya hoo.

Yakking doesn't take much and I don't think it has much to do with my Karma. But I've now jumped through a hoop to make a point. Thank you Mr. Rele. I got it TRYING to be nice to you.

Anyway, maybe I'll leave this thread with a "last thought."

I've seen some of the ladies in the bands out there. Namely....Rachel in RGTH, Laura (?) in the Gracchi, and the two ladies in Ya Ya Boom. The old man was just blown away by the dark-haired bass player....all I could do to drag him outta there. He wanted to talk "shop" and I was afraid he'd embarrass me!!! Just beautiful young gals, with a lot to offer. Though I haven't met them, I think they've got a lot more on the ball than your basic flyer gal. And the last thing that comes to mind watching them, for me, is a bra size. Now I'm sure they have their OWN opinions (and Goddess I am in NO way attempting to speak for them). I'd just like to think they might have a better shot at continuing the music somehow, in a longer term way.

Do you folks here think you could maybe drop the bra sizes? Please? I know it's a small thing....but it matters.

My vote in this poll was "Afraid to Speak Up."

I'm done now.
