I need a fucking vacation.

So I've been playing guitar for over 14 years yet I do not know how to read sheet music for it. Any recomendations on how to get started?

Well, you go to a music store and buy a "Beginners guitar" book - I honestly dont think which book is so much an issue at that level. Once you learn how to read at a competent speed/level, you might want to check out some books revolving around basic theory ... stuff like that. 4 months out from doing this and you'll be like "Why didnt I do this 10 years ago". It will really opens up many doors for you as a musician.

For any bassists out there, I highly reccommend this book. I found it very informational and reccommend it to anyone who's interested in bass or interested in learning how to read and or the basics of theory relative to bass. It covers everything from reading to basic theory to learning how to set up and care for your bass yourself. Its quite comprehensive.

It's a great tool and belongs on every bassists shelf whether your holding down basic riff rock or kicking some serious skills. Smile

I went to a music camp for several years, and the last time I went, Joel Di Bartolo was our jazz band director. If I was a bassist, I'd listen to anything this guy says. He used to play with Doc Severenson on the Tonight show.

Yeah, American Pie actually made music camp sound a little tame.

Do they carry that at guitar center or would I have to order it from somewhere?

Yanno, IIRC I believe I saw it at Music Go Round. I'd check there first.

Just sing this over and over-

EGBDF... are the names of the lines on the treble cleff
FACE... the spaces are easy

Learn what most the notes on your guitar are and use the song to guide you if you get lost. A pocket music dictionary could be valuable too.

Doesn't the guitar cover all three cleff's?

I am no expert on guitar, but I think you can stick to the treble cleff. Treble cleff guitar music is notated an octave higher than the actual pitch, so there shouldnt be a problem.
