I bought the "Gotham Knight" dvd - six batman cartoons by six different directors... Not so good. It could wreck Batman for you like the Animatrix could wreck the Matrix. It tries to be a little too arty, they're a little too short to develop any kind of story and I didn't like the animation much.

For a better animated Batman experience, I'd recommend Batman Beyond, an animated series from about ten years ago. It's set in the future where Bruce Wayne is a bitter old man bullying around the new Batman, a teenager who wears Bruce's high-tech suit (super strength, invisibility, flying...)

You can get it on Netflix.

Hell Yeah, Batman Beyond kicked some ass! I have all of those on dvd! Well, I hope I can get a ticket tonight for the movie or I'm going to have to sneak in! Smile

Not to harp on Batman Beyond (the cartoon I mentioned earlier) BUT...

They're selling it at Target again. Just today, I bought season two - four disks, 26 episodes - for $16.99

It's weird. My roommate told me the dvd commentary indicated they had initially intended to gear the show for younger kids, but it took on a life of its own and got weird.

The commentary talked about how there was a rule in children's shows where no one was to point a gun directly at the screen... and batman pointed a gun at the screen three times in one episode.

Just tonight, I watched an episode where a female villain was fatally smashed by a falling crate from a stack batman threw her into... when she was tied up. Right after that, the mutant girl batman was trying to rescue blinded a dude who was beating the crap out of him. Blinded. No resolution, like, oh he got better. And earlier in the episode, batman judo flipped the same guy through a skyscraper window - which would have killed him, had the victim not been a super-being. Which batman had no way of knowing at the time.

There's another episode where Barbara Gorden, the new police commissioner, watches batman murder a terrorist by bashing his head in repeatedly with a keg of chemicals.

Read the link from Marisa's daily word on alibi.com from a couple days ago for an article on how long batman would have to train in martial arts to fight people and win, without killing or maiming them.

I haven't seen dark knight yet, but seriously... batman beyond is cool.

Ok, I'm a nerd! I've seen the movie twice already!

Oh, and Nick Brown if you want to see the end of Batman Beyond, pick up Justice League Unlimited season 1, you will trip out on how it ended!

Totally, Fuzzy. I blogged that episode on alibi.com about a year ago. The youtube links are all dead now, though.

Saw it, loved it.
Although I want to go see it again seeing as how we went in at the last minute and had to settle for seats in the second row. =0(
P.S.
What's up with Christian Bale's batman voice? He growls but tries to whisper consecutively. The Bro and I tried to mimic it for the rest of that evening.

Couldn't Batman afford a vocorder thing in his cowl?

Also, as Raymond Chandler, ninjas and most experienced robbers know... covering the lower half of the face is a far more effective disguise than covering the top. I could pick out Bruce Wayne at a costume party without much trouble.

Ok, I finally saw Dark Knight today. I'll try to pepper my opinions with rock references, since this is a music site. Also, I'm not going to check celebrity name spellings because I don't care enough.

It was too long, but pretty good (like Don Maclean's American Pie). The Joker was great - he had flashes of show-stealing brilliance like when he said "hi" to Dent in the hospital bed, but there were other times when his funny voice sounded forced (like he was losing his religion, rock ref #2).

The Two Face makeup/cgi was awesome. Did you know Vigo Mortensten used to be married to Exene Cervenka from X? That's #3.

I thought Batman's costume didn't look as cool as last time, or in the first Michael Keaton one. (I liked their old stuff, #4). The whole head turning business really didn't need to be addressed, in my opinion.

I hated Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, but I was surprised to see they found an actress just as bitchy and even more unattractive for this one.

I was glad that certain characters got killed off in this one.

It also bugged me that BM got to show up in certain settings where he should have been shot or arrested - police consulting seems so 'justice league.'

I also saw the trailer for Watchmen, which looked cool but they'll never make Rorscharch as cool as he was for me in the comic book - ahem, graphic novel. Watchmen is such a great story, I hope they don't fuck with the story too much. The trailer made it look like they did. We'll see.

Who's read Watchmen?

I read it for the first time back in 1990. I've re-read it about once a year since.
I'm a nerd.
