Most of the best 80s stuff (IMO) was later NWoBHM stuff and early Thrash - Sloppy's tapped the vein.

Ask around. Aside from that, anything from Lawndale or Old Skull beats all of the suggestions posted so far.

What about "Welcome to the Jungle?" That's some kick ass hard rock, baby! Or are Buns and Hoses just too mainstream and rich for this crowd?

Funny.
You should come to the show tonight, but I wouldn't recommend doing it sober... no, no way.

Hey Unit 7 Drain, how was your show? Did it rock? I thought about going, but just couldn't get off the couch. I figured I would just be miserable and wouldn't be able to get in the mood to rock out. Plus, I might have ended up succumbing to the temptation to drink which would've been disasterous since I'm taking Anabuse. I play tricks on myself, taking it first thing in the morning with my other meds and my coffee before I have time to contemplate NOT taking it and going on a binge. In case you haven't figured it out, I'm kind of a fucked up person. But I figure there's a good chance you guys put on a good live show even though I wasn't competely turned on by your CD. I'm willing to give you a chance. Were there a bunch of people dancing? To the extent that I could've just blended in and bobbed around? Or were there mostly people hanging around the bar or just staring at you? I might not be willing to make a spectacle of myself in such circumstances, especially sober. But then again, I might.

If you had said, "We're a great band and you can enjoy us sober as much as being fucked up" I might've went for it. Oh well. Seriously, tell me if you're a good dance band and people dance at your shows. I might actually know someone who will go dancing with me. Peace

Yeah. I liked Beyond Barbecue better. I love that song "Carousel", all except the cheesy organ solo.

Lawndale, Jobim.... Next thing you know, yer gonna tell me you're a Paolo Conte fan, too.

I was born in '83, so the music out of the 80's that I listened to was pretty much whatever my mom & dad listened to--half of which was music from the 70's. My favorite?..maybe more like my fondest memories of the 80's half consisted of:

The Stray Cats
The Bangels
Heart
Pat Benatar
Peter Gabriel (to a 5-year-old, those videos were boss!!*)
Los Lobos
The Texas Tornados (did I mention I grew up in El Paso?)

My aunt would laugh because I was this little 3 year old singing along to Madonna.

*Um..yes I said "boss"

ive heard conte's name, but i havent knowingly heard him. i looked him up. i will confess i am leary of European singers, but i will give him a listen.

anyway, also from the 80s i like Sade and Paul Simon's Graceland, and of course "world music" in general ;-)

I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung, wanna pull out your tough
'Cause you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I wanna get with you
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But that butt you got makes me so horny
Ooh, Rump-o'-smooth-skin
You say you wanna get in my Benz?
Well, use me, use me
'Cause you ain't that average groupie
I've seen them dancin'
To hell with romancin'
She's sweat, wet,
Got it goin' like a turbo 'Vette
I'm tired of magazines
Sayin' flat butts are the thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back
So, fellas! (Yeah!) Fellas! (Yeah!)
Has your girlfriend got the butt? (Hell yeah!)
Tell 'em to shake it! (Shake it!) Shake it! (Shake it!)
Shake that healthy butt!
Baby got back!

Fuckin Sir Mix a Lot. These guys knew how to write a song that curses weddings everywhere. Shocking to see grandma dancing to Baby Got Back. I'm guilty of liking it though. Uh...the song, not grandma booty.

I was a little kid in the 80s. I'm embarassed to tell anyone what I was listening to then. Bon Jovi, what the fuck was WRONG with me!? I would try to listen to Megadeath, Anthrax and some harder stuff and my mom would lecture me about how the music was evil and I was inviting evil into my life, then she would pummle the tape to ruins in front of me. She came into my room right in the middle of N.F.L. (Nice Fucking Life) and freaked out. She was kind of psyco back then. Good thing I grew some nuts as I got older...and uh, invested in headphones.

There's no shame in listening to Bon Jovi. Yeah, Bon Jovi sucks, but he still did some decent pop songs, especially "Dead Or Alive." If you were a kid in the 80's, you were bound to get exposed to pop music hanging out with other kids from school and what not. Expecially if you were hanging out with some hot girls who were swooning over Bon Jovi, you played right along, didn't you? I know I did.

The hot girls listened to NKOTB. I thought that if I listened to it too, they would kiss me. I was wrong. What a waste of ear energy!
