Do you have the carbon footprint numbers of gas power cars vs. electric cars?

IMO, of course. Wink

Real political change & growth happens when Americans take control and make that change for themselves. So no, Obama nor McCain will make significant change within gov't on their own ... especially within 4 years. True change happens at home, from within our communities & from our own effort, not from a Republican nor Democratic Federal magic bullet. The system was never perfect to begin with. Our strength and durability comes from our ability to evolve & fix our flaws. Do not separate yourself from the system because as an American (assumption on my part), you are a part of it and in a small way responsible for, whether you approve of how its running or not - a direct reflection on all of us.

Subsequently, Obama has alluded to this numerous times ... and from his own POV, I suppose, so has McCain. After watching the DNC & RNC I do admit there are parts of both candidates platforms that I like and agree with.

I figure I gotta at least touch the system to burn it down, so it's not exactly "separating."

i have not been able to tear myself away from watching the sea of pasty white faces at the RNC deluding themselves and swallowing all the fear-mongering horse dung that the GOP apparently feels is still valid lo these many years since the WMD argument against Iraq...

hehe, so true. One of the whitest crowds ever... and some of the makeup on the women in the audience... was it just me or did the RNC have a 1980's televangelist feel to it?

BTW - I'm not a huge fan of either political party, the DNC was cheesy too, they just had much more of a diverse crowd that more accurately reflects the population of the US. (Though the RNC editing crew clearly made a point to show a closeup of all the 3-4 brothers in the audience every chance they got.)

Barack, clearly one of the most intelligent people in the running for some time, but sometimes I wish he would just give a clear, straight answer to a question rather than going on about stuff. The boneheads in this country need that.

That reminds me of something I saw in Simon's story about Nader's visit:
quote:
A woman asks the candidate how well he could work with Congress if he is elected. The crowd chuckles, and he says if he were elected president, there would be such a groundswell that many of the members of Congress he disagrees with would no longer be in office.

There's nobody you can elect that really solves a problem, but electing certain people can be a symptom of us having solved the problem. By the time you have elected Mr/Ms Wonderful to be president, they're already irrelevant.

Once again you miss the point. You go on these long rants with little or no facts.

Labels such as "conservative and "liberal" merely serve to divide people. I am fiscally conservative but socially progressive. Pork barrel spending is a real problem, but let's not gut education. No tax breaks for domestic companies that out-source labor to other countries. Get the government out of my bedroom and into energy price regulation.I am pro-choice but also support capital punishment. I am vehement about the separation of church and state. No former or current clergy member should be in the government. The freedom worship in your own way is also a sacred right, but should have no funding or tax relief from the government. Yes euthanasia...no nukes (until someone figures out what to do about the waste). Put the government's money and muscle behind alternative energy (like they did for the transistor and IC chip). Tax breaks for investment in new energy technologies--not big oil.
As long as private interests can give money to elected officials corruption is unavoidable. Let's get that policy changed and we might have a chance.

I can't believe that in the 21st Century, United States, people like this still exist in the numbers that they do, much less hold positions of power. Just as bad are the asshats that continue to vote for and support these pathetic, narrow minded shit bags. C'mon people, didn't anyone learn from the perpetual and continued failures and lies of the bUsh rein of terror? These people don't even represent the "typical" republican. Republican sheep? Perhaps.

Huxley's Brave New World? Ironic.

I'm surprised she didn't ban 1984 or Fahrenheit 451, but I assume it's because she never read them Cool

The list Black gave as far as I can tell was copied from librarian.net where a commenter going by the name Andrew Acoin posted it in the comments fourum. The next post asked for the source of this information so I scannned through and saw no other post from Andrew but I did find another commenter by the name of Paul post a shortened version of the list with this at the end. I HATE THIS BITCH! SPREAD THE LIST! EVERYONE COPY, PASTE AND REPOST!!!!!!!! This is why I would rather talk about problems and solutions because smear tactics run rampant when it comes to candidates. Time mag couldn't reach the librarian involved for comment by the way. Might I also mention that spreading this list like paul or andrew would have you do is another form of fear mongering. Dems really want you to be afraid of Pailin. Perhaps someone will get to the librarian, perhaps we'll hear from the community, perhaps we'll hear from Sarah herself and we'll see what this is all about. You have to understand that the Obama campaign is afraid of her so they want to keep her on the defensive. VPs always attack hard and they don't want her attacking because she is good at it you have to admit.

Black I don't think I have to say it.

Davefame I was hoping you could post some facts. I believe in you its easy just look up fiesability study of electric cars. I'm curious what you dig up. I read popular science all the time as well as popular mechanics. Its a pretty well known fact that electric cars aren't fiesable yet but we are getting closer.
