I need a fucking vacation.

So we were thinking has there ever been like an all local bands show case at the journal pavilion? i think this would be the coolest thing in the entire world. And... i think it would work have an all day event with every single local band getting a chance to play on the "big stage" would be insane and i'm pretty sure with a combined effort of course we could get a shit load of people down there. Plus people could have their labels come out and maybe talk to some new prospects! Tell me if i'm wrong but i think it might work..

As far as I can remember, former New Waver, and current Bluesman Chris Dracup, is the only local to have ever played the main stage at J.P. That joint is some sort of Citadel/Clear Channel monopoly and HATES local musicians. In fact they hate everything about all of you----except your $$$ That's the American Monopoly way......

(still the best) Hated (band in town).....

i think civic plaza would be a better venue....holds 20k...60 bucks an hour to use...all the juice ya need to power what ya got...light rigs...good place for a beer garden...dont get charged a percentige to sell your merch plus you can set up your own vendors for food and crap and not get charged up the yingyang...

I agree about the plaza. Plus, the location is better (a part of the reason a Crawl works is that it is right downtown). Or the convention center? I don't know anything about those places really; I have no idea what the costs or red tape would be (security, permits, business and liquor license for food and booze for sure, promotion, etc). But it's a cool idea.

There ARE people at the Pavillion who like local music and come out to see shows (the owner corporation doesn't of course). The problem are the acts coming through. Sleestaks got bumped from second stage at Motley Crue, and we got bumped from second stage at Green Day by the bands' touring managers, but the booking/management there DID attempt to give us a shot. It may have happened more times, I don't know, but it seems like they have given up on local acts supporting there for a while? I have no idea what it would take to book it yourself, but I assume you'd need some serious negotiating power even before the task of selling the tickets and shit, the kind of inside power that none of us have. If it did hypothetically ever happen though, I'd say both stages. Twice the bands to see, twice the people working for it, why not?

Anyway, if given a shot for any of those, we'd be in.

A local jammy kind of band called Lost Lingo played there and opened for Dave Matthews, I'm pretty sure on the main stage. I was going to go, but I couldn't find the right stripped polo to go with my frat-boy khakis. Sorry, I'm in a mood.
I think it would be really great for us all to play the JP, but I really see it as one of those things that would be super expensive. An all-day, outdoor thing at the Plaza would be amazing. I wonder if one could pitch it to a radio station to get the small ammount of dough together it takes to rent it? That way there'd be no "pay-to-play."
That civic plaza idea is terrific. I bet we could get it done. And it would be all ages, which is really super great. By really super great I mean that tons of kids go to the crawls even though there's not really anything for them to do there. I used to go when I was a youngun, just because of the collective buzz coming off of Downtown that night. They would totally come to the plaza.
Hmmmm. How to make this happen.
Fuckin A! We could have the best merch table ever! This is good.

We did that in the Jemez once....good times! Was back in the early 90's and like 4 bands showed up and a bunch of people. It was killer!

The desert parties are OK. We played a couple back in the day. But I think it would be better at Civic Plaza, given that it's hard for people to get rides out to the mesa or wherever. If we had it in the Plaza, I really think we'd get lots of kids. But why not do both? I had no idea the Plaza was so cheap.
