I fucking hate the mall but I found myself there the other day and decided to check out the new store BiPolar. They are selling all local stuff including merch from a bunch of different local bands. If you get drug to the mall (like I did) go to the upper level on the east side next to Fudruckers and buy some stuff from BiPolar. I hope this place stays in business!

Yes! They are awesome! Take your merch there they do consignment. Then get some of their flyers and put them out on your merch table at shows and SPREAD THE WORD!

Yes! Very cool place. And it looks like a great way to get merch / CD's to locals.

We'll see how long it lasts with the price of rent in the mall, but I hope they do well. I think places like this get people excited about local bands / music.

These guys have been selling the shit out of Vertigo Venus' merch - I think we're one of their best sellers. BiPolar is cool.

Has anyone heard about the shows they do on Friday nights? Sent em a message on Myspace about it and they got back to me the next day, real friendly people. But I'm wondering if anyone has been to one of the shows they host and if so, how did it go?

Curious with it being in the mall and whatnot, all in all sounds like a wicked place though.

Head's up....BiPolar is in trouble...

(Copied from an email update received from BiPolar)

Hi all!

We hope you all had a joyous and happy Holiday season.

Well, the final sales numbers are in and December sales were disappointing. We are not alone in this experience. Most retail outlets did poorly this year.

We love our store and still think that the concept of bringing locally made items to the mall environment is a good one. As some of you may already know, our lease at the mall expires at the end of January. We have been offered an opportunity to renew at a reduced rent, but with the economy in turmoil we probably cannot renew without having a plan to cover expenses until the economy picks up again.

So we are asking for your input and ideas for how to raise some operating capital.
Among the ideas being tossed about are:

- asking consignors to pay a monthly rental fee or chip in with donations,
- having a huge benefit concert with some of our great local bands
- some kind of huge "shop-a-thon" encouraging consignors and other store supporters to buy something at the store
- finding someone who loves the store concept as much as we do and is willing to make a substantial investment (about $15,000) in exchange for an ownership share in the store.
Are you that person? Do you know someone?
-panhandling on street corners (no, just kidding :-)

We are open to any good idea, but time is of the essence so we need to hear from you all as soon as possible. If we are unable to continue at the mall, we are looking at ideas for how to keep BiPolar alive until the economy recovers.
Ideas?

- moving to some sort of permanent booth at an indoor flea market type place
- sharng space with another complimentary business
- a "floating store" that participates in or stages events at local venues
- ????

And last, but certainly anything but least, if we are unable to continue to afford payroll, our great, dedicated, hardworking staff will need to find new jobs. Of particular concern are Hypatia our store manager and Elsa our assistant Manager. They are our only full time employees and they, like everyone, need a steady paycheck. They are both amazing people and great workers.

So please, everyone, this store is dedicated to serving the community and it needs the community's support. Help us figure out how we can continue to provide a great venue from which to sell the wonderful items you work so hard to create.

So speak up! Share your ideas and suggestions.
Reply to this email! Contact us on Myspace http://myspace. com/bipolarstore.
Call the store at 872-2739. Call Jim or Mary Beth directly at 353-2376. Or better yet, stop by the store and talk to us in person.
And while you are there, please buy something!

Best Wishes,
Jim Woodbury and Mary Beth Crocket

Might be better just to get out of the mall and find a cheaper space.

Preferably one where you can have shows, so you can keep a %.

Though it sucks to pay rent in the mall, it's super cool that they're there. I've always wondered how to advertise shows and local bands in the heights area.

Also, have you guys seen Guerilla Graphix [sp]? It's in the old Silver Board Skate Shop space on silver near yale. They buy used shirts and put new designs on them. They look great.

Oh wow, that is really disappointing lol.

I was mad impressed with this place, it's a shame it's struggling. I am abolutely certain that we could get the backing of a whole crap ton of the local bands here for a benefit concert to assist the store? Let me know what you guys think, I was gonna head down there this weekend anyway so can run it past them should we get enough peopl down on it.
