So we pretty much have our press kit together but have no idea where the hell to send it... Any suggestions?

Find some indie labels that put out stuff similar to what you're doing and send it to them. Honestly though, most labels don't really do much with demos they didn't request.
Your best bet is to start getting some press and radio play. I'd send it out for review and to some radio shows that focus on your style of music. They're generally much more receptive to a random band sending them something. -Zac |

What do you want to do with your music?
Start fishing around. If you'd like to get on a bigger label you're going to have to kick ass at either: 1. Building massive fan base(s). 2. Making an independent label money and getting recruited by a larger fish, or... 3. Hitting the lottery sending out your demo's outright to whereever you want to go. |

I second what Zac said. You're basically never going to get on a major label when you're coming from nowhere. Find some smaller labels that suit your band's stlye and then work from there. Send out your cd and get some reviews and press.

Buy a Musician's Atlas. They're available at any bookstore. You will find hundreds of thousands of places to send your demo. Publicists, labels, managers, radio, venues, the list goes on and on. It's kind of pricey, but it's nice to have so many contacts all in one place.

The best thing to do is to send it to anyone and everyone you can. Send hundreds or even thousands. Brian Ferrish gave me this exmple; when you go to a bar to get laid your chances are better if you talk to fifty ladies as opposed to five. But make sure you bring a condom (lawyer) and wrap it up, just cause they're interested doesn't mean you can trust em. Just keep trying and you'll get a bite, be patient.
Oh also if you want to throw away money send them to only A&R reps, you'll never get anywhere. Managers, booking agents, talent buyers, radio, TV, movies, press everybody. Including A&R and labels. Toy impresario, magic aficionado, and avid shoe wearer. |
