Anybody heard this before? I just picked up a copy but haven't listened to it yet. Native american new mexico psych from the late 60s/early 70s. Sounds amazing. Here's the description:
Lincoln Street Exit: Drive It! LP (US, Mainstream, re). The all-time great, New Mexico, Native American hard psych monster, here reissued in a heavy black vinyl pressing. With cuts like "Man Machine" leading the way, this has long been one of the sought after LPs on the label, with original pressings fetching close to $300 today.
Mainstream. Saw the cd up for grabs on amazon. I have a little psych distro that I use for the really weird shit. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll email you the address to get subscribed.
I'll report back once I get a chance to listen to it.
Well crack it open then Zac. The ma's got this. I haven't heard it in a long time. Some of these dudes went on to become XIT, which I think I like better, but this one has its jams.
Lincoln Street Exit eventually became XIT. Much like Redbone, they were Native American Rockers. Unlike Redbone, they were all mainly from NM and AZ. Pretty sure Tom Bee was either in the band or at least produced them.
They were a big time local outfit (along with Ghost Rose, Six Feet Under and the Bounty Hunters) and played at places like the Mud Puddle, teen dances on the base at the O.Club and the Coronado club and were often at the Rectory, which was on Menual in a building that became Samon's for a while. That place was painted all psychadelic on the outside and was super trippy on the inside. This was around 1968-1971. I only got to go inside once, as I was just a little kid as it was a 21 and over joint. The Mud Puddle would sometimes have teen nights, but I mainly saw Linclon Street Exit at the Coronado Club and at this crazy biker/hippie bar in Placitas (I think it was called the Thunderbird) that had a big outdoor stage. (I had to lie to my parents as to my whereabouts and fork over a "lid' to some teenager neighbors who had a car and could get to that place)
Lincoln Street Exit played a bunch of cool covers and had a bunch of even cooler originals. Total Acid Rock!
Although I can remember infinite amounts of events that I've experienced and can dominate most episodes of Jepordy! while completely wrecked, I still can't remember my new (seven months old actually) phone number or my pin for my re-issued atm card. It's mainly the cool shit and the trivial that sticks, despite decades of consuming memory erasing substances.
I 'd like to do the book thing, but lack the discipline. I need someone to ask questions or bring up things and then record the output that spews forth. But I'm mostly unsure if anyone would give a shit about an old jackasses' ramblings...?
Finally kicked back on the couch and threw this record on. I gotta say as far as psych goes it's WAAAAAY up at the top. There's some snoozers on the album (like any psych album) but the bulk of it is very great stuff. I'd highly recommend it to anyone that is even slightly into psychedelic music or just new mexico music in general. It's actually kind of hard to believe that the record came out of new mexico. Never heard anything like it in this state...
