Question:
What technigue do you use to pluck yer strings?

Choices:
use fingers only
prefer fingers but use pick sometimes
prefer pick but use fingers sometimes
use pick only
other (slappin' & poppin', using other objects/bodyparts)

 

Fingers over picks 3 to 1 so far...

Judging by the views on this thread, many must be fascinated by the subtleties of bass playing.

If music is about feeling, you need to use your fingers. It's all in the tips.

I prefer playing with my fingers, but have used both with a thumb pick.

Also, don't forget Dan Lilker! Hell of a pick player.....

Ain't nothin' like an upright, no siree! Mad respect to Levi and all other cats who can play with a bow. Shit, I used to play the oboe. Talk about a really beautiful sounding instrument with no balls whatsoever...

my first instrument was violin, go figure I ended up on drums. bass is good too though.

Fingers are nice. I lose picks. That's why I nevver was a guitar player. That and thouse damn extra strings.

Fingers sound better to my ears-picks are ok though. I never have liked the sound of slap bass, but maybe because I hate most funk-style music.

My old bass player (CornDawg) played only with his fingers. He would get all cramped up with the metal tuners we had but he pulled it off. I went to record some of the bass lines myself and I had to use a pick for the heavier tunes. So I guess it depends on what the bass player is most comfortable with.
