at least in the glory daze ... over 100 bands, 2 huge outdoor stages, over a dozen indoor stages, every venue was jam packed, the streets were packed, every band was guaranteed to make $100, you could see dozens of bands in one night.

It got to the point to where all anyone could do was bitch about the crawl but miss the it!

Anyone agree/disagree?

as ahrchie and edith used to sing..."those were the days..."

back in the early days as i recall they used to have 4 outdoor stages...yeah...over 100 bands/djs...even the meatmaket sluts and studs dug live music on those 2 nights a year...the thing that sucked for most of us is that...and you cant deny this is...having to wait 30-45 minutes to catch the last song or 2 of the band you really wanted to see at a certain venue...so most people i know would pick 2-3 bands to see all night cause it take that long just to get into the venue and much longer to get your 4 or 5 beers all night if you were lucky...unless you stayed at a couple of clubs all night...and also the bands that played...loading in and out especially at the 4th and central locations...sorry to be a buzzkill...

the fun part was that we got to play in front of such random people that would never see our bands and knowing that a music community and a a respected alt newspaper and joe anderson could come together and put together an event that the city and state took notice...

o.O

I was talking with Joe Anderson yesterday about maybe bringing it back in some form for the spring - but as a Sunday daytime thing going on into the evening. Would there be any interest? Or do you prefer Schockfest?

i just had a brain fart and something good came out for an idea...

to the detriment of the local bars...

3 stages...on central and...

one at 3rd facing west...one on 4th facing north and one at 5th facing east...a rock stage a country/americana/whatever and a metal stage...

the ones on central alternate acts and the one on 4th can play all day due to the fact that there would be minimal noise interference to the other stages...im thinkin if done properly the 4th st mall between copper and central could be used as a food garden shady keep cool area...

any thoughts?

Once you want to close streets you've got to go through the city's special event permitting process. Neither the crawls nor the alibi are terribly popular with the mayor, so the hoops you have to jump through in that process are staggering and ever changing - which is not to say that I've ever experienced anything other than pleasant cooperation from the city. Don't get me wrong - outdoor stages are cool and worth the trouble.

Downtown Action Team "owns" the 4th street mall. I don't understand that deal exactly - they somehow "lease" it from the city then use it how they deem fit. In the early crawls we had a stage on the 4th street mall.

All in all, the crawls cost upwards of $80k to put on and are a ton of work and a lot of bitching about how they suck. The bars all grumble about them and wonder why the alibi gets to sell the tickets. I've halfway talked myself out of it now.

I can't tell ya baby what went wrong
I can't make you feel what you felt so long ago
I'll let it show
I can't give you back what's been hurt
Heartaches come and go and all that's left are the words
I can't let go
If we take some time to think it over baby
Take some time, let me know
If you really want to go

Don't know what you got till it's gone
Don't know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It's just this song
And it ain't easy to get back
Takes so long

I can't feel the things that cause you pain
I can't clear my heart of your love it falls like rain
Ain't the same
I hear you calling far away
Tearing through my soul I just can't take another day
Who's to blame
If we take some time to think it over baby
Take some time let me know
If you really wanna go

Don't know what you got till it's gone
Don't know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It's just this song
And it ain't easy to get back
Takes so long

Do you wanna see me beggin' baby
Can't you give me just one more day
Can't you see my heart's been draggin' lately
I've been lookin' for the words to say

Don't know what you got till it's gone
Don't know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It's just this song
And it ain't easy to get back
Takes so long

Don't know what you got till it's gone no
Don't know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It's just this song
And it ain't easy to get back
Takes so long
