I checked the bottom of the forum list and I see that rocksquawk has 896 registered members. If you subtracted the ones that aren't active, I'll bet you'd still have at least 400. I really AM curious as to how many of those would be female. Eleven is a little hard to believe, unless there's a reason for it.

Sure, maybe we can't all be as talented as Monica in Ya Ya Boom. Some of us will just be fans....but isn't that a major part of supporting the scene as well? I always thought Joan Black was a pretty solid supporter for Black Maria....wouldn't it be great if there were more like her? Wouldn't it be great if you could log on here and see more compliments about your bands??? Do you REALLY like this board the way it always has been? Wouldn't you LIKE to start being popular with strangers....see this community grow?

Sure, music does seem to have a high number of male performers. I think the fact that Albuquerque has a LOT of great female performers is wonderful....but that doesn't have to limit you.

I think the only way it would happen is if you became more user friendly.....work on that "us against them" mentality. Why bother to promote it if you're just going to chase people off. Or post user rules as terms of registration......Thou shalt attain thy B cup before criticizing. Thou shalt use a D cup as an intermediary for said criticism. Thou shalt not complain about thy bra.

Darn, this thing is pretty tight and restrictive!!

Well . . . Good Morning Everbody

I read through a huge number of posts here and guess what - I am somebody new and looking to see what the ABQ scene has to offer after being away for most of the last 20 years. I have to say, I think I learned more about this part of the scene reading the various threads on this topic than anything I might have learned just reading the band posts.

Who the fuck am I? not anybody really, a few near misses - one Grammy nonination & one Grammy for bands I played with - but not for me - I'm a hired gun - lots of songs I'm too embarrased to play out - about 8,000 nights on the bandstand over a 38 year period, one web site (MusicScene2000.com) long gone.

One thing I see here regardless of what side of the bra you are on is passion - and that is a really good thing - cause if you don't have it (and all too often even if you do) you ain't gonna do shit. I wish I knew the secret to getting national attention - if I did, I wouldn't be hanging out - I'd be planning how to take advantage of all this energy & do something positive with it.
But most importantly is a question that has been running through my mind over and over since begining this facinating exploration of your scene - - - What exactly does a training bra train?

Even a desparate southern gentleman has his limits...Get 'em Jim!

These posts are fucking priceless. Levi's got the smooth delivery and the cool blue reason, old lady can sure as hell type and camaro matt, fuckin' A....you must be a fictional character (whoever came up with this bit, is pure comedic genius)...rattle them cages.

Reality check: yep, it's still a message board, not a crusade. And it doesn't make one fucking iota of difference how many WOMEN are on this site...it matters how many MUSICIANS are on this site....BETTER YET, how many people who actually care about music in our particular area.

As for the bra sizes...Levi nailed it: Now that its an issue, nobody will stand for it being changed...and when it does change....i can already hear the uproar.

my two cents. bra sizes are cute and clever. wouldn't have expected anything less from Jim and Dandee. Those fellas are pretty witty.

Well, maybe the Alibi could tell a person where they could send a check?

Going somewhere else is probably the BEST option and always was. As I'm sure many will.

Passion would be the opposite of apathy, nomad. But I think you can judge what you see for yourself....one of the benefits of older and wiser.

Jim, I do hope you take time to calm your temper. When you do, come back and read through it again. Then you can decide if "f" was the way to go.

Well Lucas, I've tried very hard not to make ANYONE mad. And I certainly would not use the "f" word to worsen the condition. As I said previously, I don't have the proper equipment for meeting behind the Atomic. And perhaps if he cools off for awhile, he could rethink his position. I hear he's really a nice guy, so I'm not going to judge him for it.

But humor aside, I wonder, could anyone make a GOOD argument for this? I'm not asking anyone to defend the original decision...just this.

1. How does using bra sizes as a "karma" factor create a positive atmosphere?

2. Just what IS the principal that needs to be defended? Truth? Justice? The Rocksquawk Way? Give me something REALLY solid here....something about character or right and wrong....not just right of way.

3. How many are out that don't like this, but are afraid to speak up or make someone turn into the hulk? Don't worry....I won't ask you to pipe up...just give me an estimate out of 896 registered members. Can they ALL be musicians?

4. Can the argument be made without benefit of cuss words, personal insults, or orders to shut up and go away? I probably will anyway. I can see it if you tell me to get off my negativity trip or that I've harrassed someone....but it doesn't prove a point.

5. If someone IS insulted by it, what options could there be to get around it?

6. And finally, what about the increased exposure the place is getting in the Alibi and other places. How does that affect the way things are and the way things will be.

7. And here's the clinker. Answer this one and maybe I'll just concede. What does bra size have to do with music or musicians?

I know I've done a lot of typing, but can someone get past the apathy and address that for me? I have an open mind....and if someone can match my challenge (and typing ability), I'll buy ya a beer, maybe several. But I'll be da judge of dat. (Levi and Camaro Matt, you're disqualified.) Please forgive me if I just send cash.

I still stand by my original reaction...change it to jockstraps for awhile to even the score. But since I know that won't happen, why not just ditch the Karma all together. The number of posts is at the bottom anyway.

oh and ps.....I figure if one old lady disappears, it wouldn't be any great loss. After all, since I'm not in a band I'm not considered "part of the scene" anyway. I just figured this was an argument that needed to be made, and I fully expected abuse and backlash (I've seen it in action) I get no jollies from attacking ANYONE personally, and I won't. If it doesn't get changed, well, at least I'll have given you something to think about. And I DO believe there are folks that don't want to speak out. I can do the martyr thing for awhile....but only as long as anyone is interested. Afraid my disgust ratio has grown steadily. When the apathy sets in (and I'm sure it's overdue), I'll quit.

Speaking as a girl in the local scene, speaking out is certainly not a bad thing. But you got to pick your battles. And this bra thing aint it. Maybe someone could make it so the Old Lady gets a jockstrap option. Ooooh. That'd be pretty sweet in generalSmile

Anything but REQUIRED bra sizes. Give it a choice for monetary compensation, or something generically musical.

Jesus, Alibi, do something....I'd even be happy with a loss of login privilege. My hands are falling off here (and I can't get up). Smile

Wow things are really starting to get cute around here hey fellaz you know that some chixxx don't got the goods to flaunt so they go out and get crew cuts and dont wear no makeup and run around yelling about their cootches all the time. So usually you nancy boys cave in to their demands and before that happens here I want to put my two cents in about the karma titles and what you have.

1- Bass player
2- Drummer
3- roadie
4- Rhythem guitarest
5- lead vocalest
6- Lead guitarest.

See it'z music oriented and it follows the rock&roll food chain. So if you do get force fed your balls here keep it in mind.

Laterzzz!

Forgive and Forget are good ones too.

I mean it about buying the beer...if someone can convince me. And you don't have to drink it with me either since I'll be sending cash.

Think about it?

Also, for the record, let's say you already met me out behind Atomic and told me a thing or five. That thing about hulk (and not knowing you personally) tends to bring up "fear."
