Dave was right. I have to stop taking the shows my drummer sets up. Anyhow, its lonely down in the gutter, even though I share it with many others.

I had the esteemed privilege of seeing our fine mayor in person today. This was after sleeping only three hours before going to work all dressed up in my finest (the color brown to match my nose). It was hard not asking him if he understood why people have the opinion that he is a shitty mayor. In August, 2005 our mayor said this:

"I have taken a pretty controversial position when it comes to all age venues and the sale of alcohol. I have no apologies for it this evening. I believe strongly in all age venues, our kids need good music but we don’t need to have alcohol at those same venues. But understanding that we need to have constructive places and good things for our kids to do we have established, this last year, a music commission which is really working hard to encourage all types of Albuquerque music. I have sent three bands to go to South by Southwest, which is a marvelous alternative music festival in Austin, Texas. That’s okay. But I think five years from now the Mayor in Austin will be trying to figure out how to get their bands to Albuquerque and that is what this music commission will be all about."

What has he done to accomplish this? The gutters are wide in the music scene. Its hard to crawl out, and one finds 50 dollar bills lying in his or her path less and less often.

Is this music commission still active, and if so, what has it accomplished?

As far as I know the music commission really only cares about tejano, jazz, and country. I haven't been in contact with anyone in the commission for about a year so I really don't know what they're doing any more. Two years ago I was on the Jim Villanucci show with Nancy Lofland who is the head of the commission and a former news anchor. She's nice and all but I don't think she really gets the scene here. Sheryl Hooks was still on the commission last time I checked and I would run into her at burts or launchpad every now and then but haven't seen her in at least a year. I just don't think there are any real funds behind this commission. I think I'll look into it though I still have hooks number...I think.

Well hmmm... A music commission, huh?

I don't know about you "older" people on here, but when I was a kid, an all ages show is just that. Open to all ages. So, why not have alcohol sales there? Really, is Mayor Marty that stupid to think that the underage kids who want to get buzzed on something won't either do it before hand or bring it into the show?

I remember being underage at a few "all ages" shows and there was no was in hell you could buy a beer. Even if you tried to pick up a half full one, someone would be there to slap it out of your hand and tell you, "Try that again and you're out!" ...and I'm not talking about the bouncers, either. People 21 and up had one color wristband and the underage kids had another. Fans policed their own back then.

Good work Skreetch. Who would have thought that you would have stepped into the position of Tool and Cheif so ready to perform your administrative duties. I'm glad you have the line on this. Hooks and I go back pretty far. I'll try to get some more information as well, its the least I can do as Vice Tool.

To quote that philosopher king and all around genius, Groucho Marx:

"I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member."

Much less a "club" concocted by such ass-clowns as our esteemed, local politicians.

Pure fuckery!

Ya, I'm pretty sure this commission wasn't put together to help the punk music scene in Albuquerque...or rock at all for that matter.

How about a commission of punk rockers for the decommission of the music commission? I would spearhead the effort but the campaign ruined my punk credentials. If Harry survives the war on Oregon I'll assign him as chairman. Hopefully he doesn't break his chair in defiance of the decommission commission. He will have made a valid point but then we would have to undertake a complete recommissionization of the decommission commission. And now I'm off to make an appearance at a sawdust eating contest.

Aaaahahahahahaha! Damn! I'm not a card carrying, well traveled, well read MENSA member, or nothin', but I think that's pretty damned funny. Then again, I don't "get" a lot.

What a great piece of concrete! That thing is nationally famous; built for skating, smoothest ditch ever. I miss that shit.
Just started skating again and I skated the comanche (at juan tabo) ditch the other day. Its got parking blocks at the top of the banks on either side, a hip/ramp, and a wallride (if yer into that sort of thing). I'm hittin indian school asap!

Decree

All commissions will be decommissioned, then recommissioned as decommissioned recommissioned commissions. Once we have achieved the goal of commissioning the decommissioned recommissioned commissions, we will have punk at the zoo, (Anarchy Under the Stars) and metal at the Civic Center, (The Downtown Hesh Fest), bring the kids. The foreseen result will be that all citizens of Albuquerque will look at you bewilderedly when you mention the noise ordinance. "What noise ordinance?"

The next order of business will be finding all card carrying members of MENSA and having them publicly flogged for being stupid enough to pay dues to someone so that they can tell people they're smart. They will be flogged by non-card carrying members of MENSA.

All of this is pending the approval of the Tool and Chief, who is currently at the frontline of the Oregonian occupation.

Lets hit it! I try to skate at least once every weekend, although I'm not as good as I used to be. Age makes falling suck. Being scared to fall not only makes me not that punk, but it also makes me skate like a puss.

Foodstamps, you too!
