We've been kicking around the idea of having an alternative young band night at the club I help book for. Still haven't got a final answer from the owner but I think its going to happen, possibly on a Wednesday. Many of the young and upcoming bands on here sound good, I've been checking your myspace sites/songs for awhile now.
We have been booking the Strawberry Zots and perhaps they will start advertising their shows on this forum. (hint hint) I'm all for giving other bands a shot but again its up to the owner. This site has really went downhill with all the juvenile totally asinine postings of late. I used to enjoy reading the bantering but lately its just noise, and not good noise. Censoring is a fine line but some of the crap I read here crosses the line between humor and stupidity. Hopefully we can find bands on here who can show up on time, play 2-4 hrs, and do our part to help the music scene. |

Hey Tiger, it's cool that you're trying to add some club options to the scene, but I think the 2-4 hour thing is going to rule out most of the bands on here. None of us on here are cover bands. Young bands, as most of us are, prefer the 30-45 minute set of all original material option. What you need to do is set up bills with 3-4 bands a night, and then you'll probably get a decent response. Just my $.02

That's what I thought, unfortunetly we don't have a house PA tho I have lobbying hard for one. Booking 2-4 bands every Wednesday will be a pain but perhaps if they shared a PA it might be possible? I used to play in original bands and we had several hours of material, guess that was "old school" haha. |

Even "punk" bands that have been at it for 10+ years have a hard time playing for two hours. We have a one hour max set at this point in time. I usually want to puke from overexertion at some point in the set too.

Now that's funny and I know musicians stamina varies a lot. Playing balls to the wall Led Zeppelin or Ozzie covers for 3-4 hrs ain't easy either, especially on drums. |

much respect for drumtiger.
there is always the third way, having an original band open for a cover band. cover bands have the P.A. 1 set for the opener. 2 sets for the closer. do not limit yourselves to pre-ordained musical futures. |

Drummers are sweaty. |

Sure, that could work. I'm not knocking one type or the other, I'm just being realistic. Most bands I know and have played with could not play for 2 hours, let alone four.

I have never been in a band that has played a set over 25 minutes. I can't think of any local bands I would want to hear for more than 30-40 minutes max. But that's just me.

I'd listen to Simfonic Plague for longer than that, but I fear that the bassist's fingers would bleed out after 4 hours of playing those triplets. |

That setup could easily work, and the resposibility of putting together the show could rest upon the bands. For example, a band could find 2 or 3 compatible bands that agree to perform (using the same PA), and present the lineup to you (and/or yer boss) for approval. <- Stun Guitar -> |

no band should ever play for more than 45 minutes... unless you're playing a wedding or something where you're just "background" music. who wants to stand there and watch one band for 2-4 hours??? ... not me, not even if it was jimi hendrix himself.

I like that idea, good out of the box thinking, leave it to an engineer. We only have cover bands on Fri/Sat and a overly loud band will drive off customers then. I'll definitely discuss this possibility with the owner! He gets a lot of inputs from the owner of The Tavern. |

Now that and GFX's idea are both WINNERS, less work for me. I might even consider the idea of rigging up my ol' Peavey PA to preclude bands having to drag one in. |

I agree with drumtiger. Seems like a band should have more than 10 or 12 things to say, and in an interesting way.
As for the PA thing, its probably a non-issue. Most people know each other and sharing the sound system won't be a problem. (It could be even less of a problem if the PA's owner gets an extra cut.) Glad to see another venue opening up. Good luck. |

Thanks for cluing me in, I had no idea. |

You're very welcome, I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. There are a lot of musical tastes and preferences in the world far apart from the dozen or so people that post here. Not knocking anyone, just trying to make an interesting music scene and keep an owner happy at the same time. It's like juggling most days. |

Are you making that up? |

You can also get stoned and bump into people, spilling your beer in the process. |
