I believe, fuzzy, that Emcee 2kold is trying to intimate to us that he likes hip-hop and playing records, and feels to some degree that terryb has insulted him by suggesting that learning and playing an actual musical instrument is a superior endeavor as compared to muttering gibberish over a rhythm track that a retarded three-year-old would be ashamed of, a notion with which he seems to disagree.

Yep, that's about it.

Cut funding for the music programs in schools, and by GAWD those kids will learn how to play SOMETHING.

He's got a strong understanding of basic psychology there.

Also makes the point that working together is far preferable to a divided front, he enjoys his style of music, and recognizes the right of everyone else to do the same.

I'd invite this guy over to my living room any day....though I don't think I'd try to talk the talk.

tee-hee, well, THIS forum went down a different road, huh?
Anyway, I want to thank the Alibi, Rocksquawk, all of you, and the Atomic for letting us play some loud shit on ancient equipment. We had fun. But we didn't try to move around too much, so our problems were minimal.
Represent.

Good grief! It's not another language. It's just creative language. He was also trying to say that he spends a lot of time developing beats on turntables. What am I? The DJ to snobby rock folk translater?
And turntables are a real instrument requiring a great deal of skill unknown to other musicians who don't have to listen to 10 seconds in the future in one ear and what's happening right now in the other while improvising with a poet. Sorry y'all. I love rock. And I love hip-hop. To my original point, the complaint was against the owner of Ned's, a seriously MINOR one at that, not against hip-hop or the hip-hop crowd. Sheesh.
How does one end a thread. Can I end this one? It's been stupid from like the middle of page 2 on. I guess I could just stop replying.
And yes. Thanks to everyone for having us out. We'll play anytime, anywhere. Just ask the mormon church we played a zapatista benefit at a couple years backSmile Oooh. That gives me an idea for a new thread. Hmmmm.

yeah, seriously, a good DJ (as opposed to the guy who just plays cds of top forty shit) is cool. Not just the good taste and the beat matching, but the ability to read the crowd and build up the night. Knowing where to put in the crowd pleasers and then bringing it down without scaring everyone off the floor. I think a turntable is a valid instrument too.

I still think it's different than the spirit of a "live music" night. it doesn't matter the genre. I mean, nobody had to make room for paintings or novels. DJs have their own events in this town, right?

But shit, I wasn't there. And I don't feel bad for people who use Zs instead of Ss getting made fun of. I don't want to sound like your Mom or anything, but you gotta know that shit'll happen.

I think you can lock a topic you start. At least in your own area you can...

nowhere did I say that djs aren't talented.
I said "not as cool".
that does not mean lacking talent or skill.
moreover, it's a subjective statement.
