i don't know a whole bunch...but these guys are cheap, and good.

i think that one important aspect of choosing your product is 'glass mastering'. you want to end up with a CDA not a CDR. at least i think thats how it goes.

I have never liked cheap. I feel like that if I'm going to sell a product that I don't cut corners. Oasis isn't cheap. It's reasonable and the quality is good. Their dud ratio is about 300 to 1. The CD's don't scratch so easy. They will ship directly to CD baby and get you on all major music websites if you choose. They distribute a song of your choice to college radio and give you a list for follow up. They offer ways to help you sell albums cause it gets everyone more bussiness. If your budget is less than $1,000 they aren't for you. Very convienient if you have the budget.

SuperGiant is getting ready to make a CD. I was hoping to print like 500 copies with a color sleve for less than $1000. is that possible? I wanted to bump this discussion and look over the links.

what does that mean the 4/1 four panel inserts and 4/1 traycards ... or 4/4 ??? none of these sites seem to explain that! I'm thinking its something like 4 fold, one color but i don't know

If you're talking about a traycard.
4/4 means all color on both sides...
4/1 means one side has color, the other is b/w.
4/0 means you have full color on 1 side, you don't have shit on the other.(for non-clear trays).
I think if talking about the insert, the first number is the cover, the secod are its pages(or back).

I've had good experiences with diskfackory...or however it's spelled.

It was also the cheapest that came in a good case and the most easily workable hands free service I've used.

It really is a question of whether or not your getting the cds replicated or duplicated.
Its all about how professional you want your product to look.

On the 2 cds we have put out, both were duplicated. We went locally with Desoto productions. The lady who runs that is freaking AWESOME. 100 CDs Full color 1 page insert front and back with color printed on the CD itself, for very cheap. The turnaround was Less than 1 Day!!! no joke

Check out the end product! We were in a hurry to get it done (bad idea) so the grainy quality on the cover is of our own problem NOT hers.

Back to the replication duplication dillema, i see it this way; you might as well just CD-R the damn thing because as soon as the customer buys it, they will take out the CD and immediately rip it to their hard drive and store the original copy for safe keeping. All that really matters is the quality of the recording and the cool artwork that came with it.

Some might say, well the info is tranferred way better on replication. Yes but the average listener wont be able to tell that the coding is supposed to be 110101011 instead of 110101010. They wont hear the difference. Some really can I know, but not us punk rockers who fried their ears listening to CCR & Simon and Garfunkel last night. We are all deaf!!!

tens of thousands for replication or thousands for duplication, and the end result is essentially the same, hmmmm i wonder

Edith Grove has gone with DiscMakers both times. We're in the midst of the manufacturing process for our second CD and should have it in hand within a couple weeks. If you're a BMI member, you can get a 10% discount through them. I really appreciate their professionalism and being able to track your order online. Lots of extras are thrown in, including hooking you up with CDBaby, a trial run on SonicBids and inexpensive professional-looking posters. They did our CD design (based on pics and suggestions we sent) also and it's pretty rockin. Very pleased. We went for the whole hog jewel case, 6-page, spine label package, but they also have a lot of less expensive options. But I've been completely pleased with their customer service, quality and turnaround time.
