my 7yr old has had drums since he was 3yrs. he was getting pretty good playing beats at 5, but then Legos infected him and he stopped.

now the younger brother is playing the drums, and he's got this takio drum theatre thing going on.

First Act sells functioning kid-size instruments. They sell them are toys-r-us. The drum kits have real hi-hats for example. The guitars work fine, except kids love to completely detune them.

UNM's music prep school is a stoopid good deal.

Man, the ultimate Rock-N-Roll parents!

If I popped a Hendrix, or whatever 8-track in the Buick, my Dad would threaten to make me walk if I didn't turn off, "That Screaming Negro Acid Rock!"

(still the best) Hated (band in town).....

Thanks for the tip. Have you had a child in one of these classes? Which one? How was it?

My wife has banned certain punk bands from the family car. My daughter's pretty hurt about it because she loves NOFX. I agree with the wife that the content is sometimes objectionable. I have a mute button on my steering wheel that I use to censor f-bombs. She doesn't think that this is enough. If I was dumb enough to argue with her, I would point out that while our daughter is hearing some things that are not age appropriate, she understands the proper conext for usage, which adds to her level of maturity. I avoid arguing with my wife though, because she's really good at it...

Yes, the general preschool class, and the percussion class. both were very good. i sat in the classes with my kids. preschool classes are very eye-body coordination and play oriented. the percussion class teaches reading notes, poly-rhythm, and improvisation. the parents had to participate too. the percussion class had homework, working on reading! overall, there are a lot of classes to choose from, the teachers seem very good, and the price is very good.
