Yeah, we can't all do the right thing according to the soundman all the time. The Old Main usually plays last, and we play too many songs after he says "two more" and I sometimes don't get my shit off the stage very quickly (only if we are last). I am quite unreasonable and very absent minded because I am totally hammered after a performance in a bar not just on booze either, I'm talking about emotionally, physically and spiritually (but mostly just boozed) .
I don't do those things because I am trying to be defiant or that I am an asshole...(everyone that knows me would back that up--except for a few women ha ha again). But I truly give so much at each and every turn during a show so that means putting the brakes on and stopping the train so suddenly is really really difficult.

All of that obviously pent-up frustration expressed by Stu over the guys that don't follow the rules shouldn't get to the point that it is getting inside his head. Really, Stu and others posting here have information that only employees of a bar would have about the liquor laws, fire marshalls and all that crap--I and many others do not. I'm a mechanic, I show up and I drink and I play music. That's it. The suggestion about the course on gig rules sounds stupid, but that or a forum or a damn sign near the stage or on the back of a speaker really doesnt seem like a bad idea. Or just lay it out in a huddle before the show or when the band is booked for ALL the guys in the band. I don't ever want to get anyone in trouble because that's chickenshit. I would like to be educated on the laws and all that because I don't want the bar I like playing in to get a fine because of me...but it has never been clear as to why one guy telling me to stop should stop me when I have everyone else still willing to dump cash into the register and telling me GO GO GO!!! Shit, after I leave I get out the acoustic and all those people come out to our drummer's house to jam some more...sometimes all night. It's passion and love and what I live to do. BUT, now that I am aware that it is threatening to cost the bar "more than my house" to follow my instinct to keep playing, I'll try my best to do it right...don't lose it Stu, just let a mother fucker know why things are the way they are because some of us don't know the rules...some might not care. The "do it because I told you so" will never work on people like me, obviously. But I do apologize for being a guy on your list, and you don't have to be an asshole like you said, just outline why things are like they are for everyone. Don't get your beard in a tangle homie.

i appreciate someone actually looking at what i was saying and seeing themselves in my complaint,
BUT no one in NM can tell me they do not know about the liquor laws and truly be convincing.

in ALL of the bars i've seen a show, you can not be in there after 1:45 without experiencing the screaming doorguy/bartender/or (in my case) soundguy (because i can yell louder than most people i know) telling you to get your shit, buy some merch, clear your tab and get the fuck out.

i love the old main for exactly what they are and do, but claiming WHATEVER for an excuse to not knowing how to behave is a little much.

i never said "do what i say because i say so", AND i have pulled certain problem cases aside and expressed the issues in question, and for the most part, issues have resolved themselves.

what does not work is pussyfooting around and trying not to hurt people's feelings because that is disingenuous and wastes time.

so in the interest of disclosure :

ROD- the old main should ...
1. book a show where they can start at 11:30 if they really need to play for 2 hours

B. get zoltan a club sized amp or REALLY express the need to dial back that SVT because he does not listen to my white ass (in fact, the opposite) and i am tired of telling everyone i can not turn down the bass guitar . *

III. explain to the fans/entourage that just because they WANT to carry gear out for you, does not mean they are essential to the band getting loaded out .

e. continue being one of the most entertaining and engaging bar bands in town .

* Zoltan has long been one of my favorite players in town (rakes of mallow, anyone?)
but there has always been some sort of communication issue 'tween us .

Fighting, except when it's in sports, is for childish dipshits who can't control their emotions and aren't intelligent enough to deal with them or solve theri problems in more reasonable ways. The last time I was in a fight was way back in '96. It was with this fat kid who dealt pot and smoked a bong and listened to metal in his garage all day. He was totally spoiled. His mom couldn't control him so she just let him have the run of the place. Anyway, I bought some weed from him one day and I was so stoned I didn't get the change I had coming to me. I triedto get it from him later and he avoided doing so. A few days later I called him and his asshole attitude was much more accute. He ridiculed me and threatened me, saying he was going to kick my ass and shit, which was absurd. I knew something was up, so I got a couple of my Mexican gangsta friends and showed up at his pad. Sure enough, there was this great big high school basketball dude there waiting for me. I just stepped out of the car, walked right up to fatty and cold-cocked him on the jaw. He went down immediately. My friends (at th time - one of them later tired to rape my girlfriend) were on the basketball dude and kept him back. Fatty got up and attempted some sorry ass karate kick. I grabbed his head and dragged him to the back of the garage and proceeded to smash it repeatedly on the washing machine. Then I tried to stuff him in there but he was too fat and heavy. I pulled him on the ground and kicked him til he quit fighting. Then I walkedover and took his three foot bong, saying, "I'm gonna hang onto this til you decide to pay me." He paid me the next day and I tossed the bong onto the garge floor, breaking it. I really hated having to treat someone like that, but jstice must be served. I must admit a part of me enjoyed it.
