Seriously....these fucking vets are worse than the human health care providers.

There's got to be someone out there who cares more about the animal than your wallet.

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I'm pissed.

I like blue cross animal clinic on Carlisle. I brought my evil serial killer cat there for shots. She hates everyone and will claw you up even if you are her favorite human. But they chilled her right out and administered the shots no problem. It was like watching some kind of religious miracle.
Plus the prices seemed really good compared to other places we've explored.

I really like Dr. Dana at Taylor Ranch Vet hospital on Golf Course and Paseo. He gets down on the floor every time and lets my puppies lick all over his face. It's hilarious. But he's not real cheap and I really really hate driving to the west side. But I think it's worth it to see him get on the ground with the pups. He really loves animals.

Paul Malin over at Albuquerque Veterinary Housecall Practice has always done a good job for us. Best part is that he comes to you.

When I had to take my Pug in for emergency surgery, I tried Albuquerque Animal Emergency on Montgomery. They tried to gouge my wallet to the tune of $1200, so I went to Banfield located in the PetsMart right down the street. Paid just a little over 1/3 the price of the other place, and they did a great job. I have a very happy, lively pug today thanks to them.

Be careful of the microchips here in town, if your dog/cat doesn't have one, they are required to give them one here in the city, unless you know your vet really good. If you don't want them chipped you gotta take your chances in like belen or las lunas.

You don't want good ol' Marty spyin on your ass with your pet's microchip haha

My dog had a small injury on his ear (the flappy part, not the important part). So, I cleaned it for a while, and it seemed to be fine. Then it grew into a pink bump, which didn't seem to bother him. But, it kinda bothered my wife and I. So I took him to the vet where they proceeded to give me only worse case scenarios. 'It's probably cancer'. I said, 'so, small wounds typically turn into cancer?'. Vet - 'yep'. (I'm paraphrasing). Then proceeded to charge me $120 to stick a needle in his bump and nothing else.

5 minutes of internet research and the bump is now known as a histiocytosis. Something that pops up, and usually goes away after a few months. Harmless.

How could the vet not diagnose that as a possible option when it was very clear that that was what it was?

Oh, and thank you everyone for putting in your two cents. I really appreciate it.

The face of Mannydog Records is just fine as far as we're concerned.....minus a pink bump and feet that smell like corn chips.

Cool. Hope everything turns out alright. It wouldn't be normal to not be pounced on by Manny when I come to your house, Chris.

It is positively sickening that there are people who play on others' trust like this. You look at this scenario and you eventually have to come to the conclusion that a person like this doctor either doesn't have the expertise to make an accurate diagnosis or just doesn't care to. Which is it, ignorance, carelessness, or inexperience? I consider it to be particularly vile to use a person's attachment to a pet as leverage for profit via lies and false diagnoses. Front row seats in hell for folks like this.

There's a tree service here in town which charges folks $35 bucks to come out and misdiagnose all the trees on their property. After the initial charge, the proprietor tells the client that all the trees need microinjections of insecticides and fugicides or they will all die, die, die. The bill for the completed service runs from $2500-$8500 from my experience, seemingly depending on where the client lives and how much money they appear to have. I have had the pleasure of being called by several people close to falling victim to this particular tree service for a second opinion. Many folks have a deep emotional attacment to their trees, and this particular tree service uses their fear to get at their money. The only tree that I ever found on one of these folks' properties that had an actual problem was a Western Catalpa with a mild case of iron chlorosis. The client was able to remedy the situation himself with a $14 can of Carl Pool Magic Green. I have the satisfaction of knowing that I have taken tens of thousands of dollars in business away from these shady motherfuckers. I hate "professionals" who put profit ahead of ethics!

I go to Bernalillo Animal Clinic. It's not too far for me, since I'm in the NV. Rural vets are cheaper - and they are more ... what's the word, pragmatic? Dr Shook explains everything, and admits if he's wrong. He's realistic, starts with the cheapest most simple procedure and work from that. The best part is that they don't guilt you / try to make you feel like a psycho animal strangler for refusing services due to finances.

BUT

he's not all hugs and kisses with your pet - kind, but just down to business.

Dammit that's funny.

We go to Sandia Animal Clinic. Proximity mostly, but they've never been dicks to us.
