What Would Hüsker Dü? ![]() ![]() |
I like cheese a lot. A nice rat cheese is good. Wisconsin cheddar. String cheese.
That's where it all ends for most people. Not me. I also enjoy with frequency Tilsit, Fontina, Gruyere, Taleggio, Caprino and others. Boy, I'm fancy. With the exception of the taleggio, these are not considered to be "stinky" cheeses. Taleggio is only slightly stinky. I usually do not go for the stinky ones, but a couple weeks ago, I picked up some German beer cheese, often labeled as Bierkaese or Weisslacker. It was a bit stinky, but the flavor made it bearable. It is like a semi soft, but it is still a bit crumbly. Weird. As time went by, however, the smell of this cheese got worse and worse. I finally had to throw away the last ounce or so a few days ago. I just couldn't bring myself to eat it, and Mrs. Foodstamps was complaining about the smell in the kitchen. It is days later, and the fridge still stinks. This cheese kicked ass on the box of Arm & Hammer that was in there, and ruined some food. I pulled out a tupperware container of rice that smelled like sulfur. Had to throw that away. My fridge smells like bad breath and dirty clothes. The funny this is that Mr. Bierkaese did not give me nastier ass gas than anything else. I wish my neigbors were assholes so that I could throw the remaining cheese up on their roof right next to the air conditioner, but they haven't done anything to me. ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø¤ - ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`° www.myspace.com/theunemploid www.myspace.com/rageagainstmartinsheen |

Sure sounds like it. But you still have such love and appreciation for the sleazier cuisine. You have one of the most well rounded palletes of any gourmand I have yet encounter. Foodstamps Fancy Pants---But Keepin' It Real. (and thanks again for the mac-n-cheese/gravy sleeze bowl tip) (still the best) Hated (band in town)..... |

I sure am glad that you liked it. That makes me happy; knowing that I am not the only one. Man, that is heaven on a spoon or fork.
Also, be sure to try the foodstamps au jus: nice, hot, greasy Carls Jr's Double Western Bacon cheeseburgers (hold the onion ring) dipped in room temperature KFC brown gravy. Oh, so goooooood! I can do 3 of them. See how many you can do!*
Thanks! I just like to eat. Not shit like this, though. * their fries suck, except for the "criss cut" ones. ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø¤ - ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`° www.myspace.com/theunemploid www.myspace.com/rageagainstmartinsheen |

Man, I love the idea of combining any type of greasy burger with institutional gravy! Yeah!
And as much as I love cheese, I'm not down with the maggot cheese. Just a tad too "fancy" for me. So what are your thought's on JB's all-you-can-eat chicken fried steak and salad bar? That salad bar has a full taco/nacho section that leaves many creative posibilities open when enhancing the original meal... (still the best) Hated (band in town)..... |

JB's AYCE chicken fried steak is a hit/miss proposition. The quality is wildly varied as to location and particular day. While the steaks initially come out nice and crispy, they progressively become more soggy and greasy. The salad bar is good for nothing but cottage cheese, cubed ham, ranch dressing and croutons, which do combine to make a damned fine salad, I must say.
I'll take Grandy's AYCE CFS over JBs any day. I can eat those processed, fried steaks and mashies with a myriad of gravy combinations until I am sick of the flavor redundancy. Don't let 'em fill you up with rolls! Te JBs on 4th street has a badass breakfast buffet with the usual bacon and egg fare, plus carne adobada and red chile cheese enchiladas. The one by Lomas/I25 used to have some damned fine dirty rice, but it was not enough to justify them constantly over frying the ham, so we don't go there anymore. Back in the day, JBs used to have a straight up "food bar" with chicken, macaroni and cheese, etc. It was more like the "salt and grease bar". Soo good. Oh, well. ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø¤ - ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`° www.myspace.com/theunemploid www.myspace.com/rageagainstmartinsheen |

Is there still any Grandy's left in town? Perhaps one still on Juan Tabo? Or was it Eubank? I'm still mourning over the loss of the one East of Nob Hill......
I've only tried the Lomas/I-40 JB's. Funny what you said about the salad bar, as I only bothered with the cottage cheese. That and the sleazy taco/nacho stuff as part of some chicken fried steak experimental topping thing. And I guess I've been living good or have been hitting the all-you-can-eat on "good" days, as my 'lil processed patties always come out crisp and hot. Next time I wake up on the West side (and I'm not in MDC), I'll have to scope out that Breakfast buffet. As always, thanks for the tips! (still the best) Hated (band in town)..... |

Don't ask me how, but I missed the entire part about the taco/nacho deal at the salad bar in your first post. That sounds intriguing. Pretty much anything that involves grease, salt, meat, and molten cheese is worth checking out!
I think there is still a Grandy's on San Mateo as well as the one on Juan Tabo. The one on central was a favorite haunt of mine until it closed. Tote your tacos up your ass! That JBs on 4th is a little north of Osuna. It is worth the drive no matter where you may wake up, especially if you have a hangover. If you don't get there early, you may have to wait 20 or so minutes to get a table. Those enchiladas and steak fingers covered with carne adobada make it worth it. Also, they cook the breakfast sausages to the point where they are still greasy and just a little browned. Do you do the Vegas thing? What has your experience been like at the buffets? The only real gambling I ever did there was paying for the Imperial Palace breakfast buffet, and I lost. ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø¤ - ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`° www.myspace.com/theunemploid www.myspace.com/rageagainstmartinsheen |

Oh geez, that's like a mantra to me! Alright, I had spaced out that Grandy's on San Mateo. Next to the club formally known as Senor Buckets, right? I guess since I'm usually driving when around that area, and the traffic is usually fubar, I miss checking out the sights. Yeah, that Central one was a favorite for me as well. And the Zia Motel was open back then---right next door. That always made for a well rounded dining experience. Yeah, fuck a toted taco. Lame ass, West Coast, trendy yuppie fare.... Steak fingers at JB's on 4th?!? Is this a breakfast only thing, or is it a regular part of the salad/food bar there? Despite the array of non salad items and the whole "southwest" section, the one off Eubank does not feature steak fingers. At least not at supper time hours. Your carne adobado covered ones sound exquisite. It's been a while since I was in Las Vegas, but coincidently enough, I will be there for three days in July. Most of my past trips were as a "guest" of a high stakes, hard drinkin' gambling crew I'm loosely affiliated with. When I went on jaunts with them, they were always ensconced at the Luxor. Since the priorities wre pretty adhered to---hard drinking and hard gambling---there was really only one meal a day for those vatos. And one of the reason's they stayed at Luxor was the buffet. My recollection was that it was alright food. My memories are more about the horrific clientel that ate there. Enormous, grotesque creatures and their spawn, all fighting, pushing and grunting to get as much of whatever before anyone else. Not unlike a typical trip to a Wal-Mart check out line. But with food. I once went on a date to Vegas with a chick, and she wanted to try the buffet at the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel, but I was physically ejected from that fine establishment, by the managment. They didn't take my picture (to my knowledge) but it was made fairly clear that I was 86ed. Bum rushed me to the front of the cab stand line and I ended up at the lounge in the Bellagio, slamming vodka matinis in a banquete across from Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. They didn't didn't mind my presence at all. We even bought each other drinks. Nice people..... So yeah, all I know about the Imperial Palace (besides the car collection) is that it is pretty Motel-6ish, not unlike the Excaliber. I was warned to stear clear both of those joints as far as food and lodging. Seeing as my next trip will be with my Dad, there will probably be more eating, as I don't think I'll be "suppressing" my appitite on that trip. I'll let you know what I find.......... Hey! I saw Jerry Stiller out there the last time we went. Didn't buy me a drink, though.
What did you do to get 86ed from the Hard Rock? That sounds like a good story. I had the buffet over there at the Luxor a couple years back, and I was not impressed. Harrah's has a damned good buffet for around fifteen bucks. The absolute best one hands fucking down that I have been to out there is at the Rio. just fucking amazing. I'ts about twenty bucks or so, and it's worth every penny. Huge. Hamburgers, Mongolian BBQ, CFS, sushi, Italian... You name it. Corn dogs dipped in sweet & sour sauce... Twaaaaaaaah..... the Imperial Palace and Excalibur buffets both made me leave angry. Someone actually suggested that I try the Circus Circus buffet. I went to that place once, and it makes the Wal Mart on Zuni look like Windsor Palace.
