What Would Hüsker Dü?

Posted
It has sentimental value. Besides, we were the first band on here and stuff. Also, Vince from 668 is our new drummer, and Brandon from the Unemploid will be playing guitar in the band now, so maybe things will not be so dead around here anymore once we get our shit back together.

Err, doesn't this post make us current enough to keep?

In my early days of visiting this site, back in the days of Dandy and Jim, when endless activity emmitted from Kiddy Land (the forums from the Eastern and Southern towns), when Pez, Mr. Horse, bassgrrll and their comrades were prime posters and not just lurkers, when those fresh faced kids from Hit By A Bus were innocent and unjaded, when idiots like Liber and Lex kept the clueless factor rising through the stratosphere, when endless Simpson references ruled, Martin Sheen and our beloved foodstamps ruled this board with raipier wit and liberal baiting fervor.

If this forum is deleted, where will we turn when we accuse Martin Sheen of also being Wiccan Earth Goddess or Camaro Matt? And what if foodstamps decides to enlighten us with his intestinal exploits? Let them stay. If not only to prevent revisionist history from happening, do it for the kids*

I thought the last post about pickle juice was a testament to the worth of keeping this forum around. By the way, foodstamps, what are your recommended albums of Husker Du to listen to (assuming the HD tagline is not a joke)? My buddy at work just bought a box of tapes from a yard sale for $3 and it had Zen Arcade as well as some others, and I was going to borrow them and needed a place to start.

For me, Husker Du is best appreiciated in pretty much the order of releases. Although some purists may argue that once they were on Warner Bros., things weren't as "hard". I am not one of those people. And I'm also not foodstamps but I have loved Husker Du since I got my copy of Land Speed Record from SST back in 1981. With that said, try them in this order (if you have access to all these)...

-Land Speed Record (genius. ahead of it's time)

-Everything Falls Apart (great cover of Donovan's Sunshine Superman here)

-Zen Arcade (if you like music, this better be in your collection)

-Flip Your Wig (big label debut)

After that I like Warehouse and then Candy Apple Grey even though they were released in the reverse order than my preference.

Bob Mould's solo album Black Sheets Of Rain is a lot lot Husker Du, as opposed to his first solo venture Workbook, which was more of an acoustic deal, complete with violins and cellos. Sugar, Bob's post-HD band is a pretty good listen as well...

...one of the most bleak and depressing albums of all time. Love it. Sugar's Copper Blue is also killer.

The rest of black's post pretty much says it all (but I like Zen Arcade best).

Man, I haven't really sat down and listened to any Husker Du in a long time. I had and Land Speed Record and Everything Falls Apart way back when, but just like any other "artist", I guess I just pick and choose songs from albums depending on what mood i'm in at the time. Make sense?

That was going to be the name of our first CD, but we thought RAMS AND SOAD on the same CD might be confusing.

How great is it to have all this activity in here! This place was like a fuckin' haunte dhouse.

Thanks, fellers!

Empty 'em out and roll a new one, of course! I'm disappointed in you, Brother black... Big Grin
Not that an upstanding citizen like the venerable Brother Foodstamps would condone such activity...

Weed makes me throw up. Can't touch it. Malt Whisky is better, anyway.
