DIY recording sounds like crap. No highs, no lows. Super-fuckin'-compressed everything, so no dynamics. Multi-band compressor applied liberally to the mix bus, resulting in that lovely "breathing" mix. Way, way, WAY too much reverb. Sounds like it was recorded in a box, a small cardboard box. That's lined with egg-crates. The "cool-we've-got-something-which-resembles-'signal'-on-the-m-box,-let's-fuckin'-roll-it mindset. No pop-filter on the vocals, especially not a metal pop-filter which don't cut off 19.7kHz and above, unlike the mesh. Mixing to tape on a mixer with L and R out only and thinking that it'll sound good. Definitely no isolation of the instruments. Hey I've got a good idea, let's gate something. Hey I've got an idea, let's assemble a song instead of capturing a performance of an artwork. Let's EQ to tape because we can. And by the way, let's add some samples while we're at it. Fuck mixing, it sounds good on our little factory Dell speakers. Who cares, because it's all going to mp3 anyway. Fuck it.

No regrets mang! You are venting out your frustrations.. It's okay.. You have all our support.. Hell, that's why we ALL are here supporting your amazing music.

We have been in your shoes before. We were fucking $3,000 in the hole still recording at a studio for our first CD when everything was going wrong. The mix was the worst we have ever heard and it just kept on getting worse and worse. There was no turning back.. We had to scratch everything and start completely over. So I know this frustration you speak of all to well..

Mixing is super tricky especially for metal music, let alone your complicated music. I'm sure there is a way to improve what you have recorded. Hang in there buddy!

You wanna a black tooth shot there big guy?

I was venting, Johnny but in a different direction. No worries about our sound, and I'm fuckin' stoked about how things are going. The above opinions were more me projecting on ourselves some of the negative opinions towards DIY recording. The fact that we've got 3 certified engineers and like 15 combined years of recording experience makes me smile.

Those problems I mentioned are not ones we're having, or going to have. And our mix is gonna be less complicated than one might think, but that's due to the super-clean tones we got to tape. However, I've heard DIY recordings that are pretty crappy. And they don't have to be!
